Amazon advice?

Has anyone here had success with Amazon? I've built a nice looking review site, with 30 product reviews and a dozen nicely written articles, but I've got no traffic. All of the content I did myself and are rich with information.

As far as I know, the only keyword that appears on google, is my exact match domain name, and it appears on page 7. All of my products I guess are buried down behind the millions of amazon/buy.com/wal-mart pages?

I don't understand how people are able to rank, I even go after the fringe products with about a dozen reviews, thinking there will be less competition, but I still get no hits. My next step is to make videos for the products and do some video marketing, but I would like to see some initial return on investment in the form of visitors. This has been a months long project for me because I still have a full time job to pay the bills.

    • Find low competition long tail keyword that gets a lot of traffic and build an Amazon site around that. Make sure to do some good off page white hat SEO to boost the site. I have done this and made money.
  • It sounds like you threw up the site and expected results based off the quality content that you wrote. You could slave away adding more content (articles/videos) to the site in hopes that you'll get some natural links from other sites, but that's a long and tedious process. You need links. I'd recommended a white hat SEO service or look into guest posting. You could do keyword research for the products and find low competition keywords that are relevant to those products that you can target for the product pages, or you could find broader keywords relevant to the whole site to target for the homepage or category pages. Amazon affiliate sites are competitive and if all your site has to offer is product reviews, you might want to rethink your approach. Try to take a news focused approach or something similar. Attract attention/visitors to the site through those posts, then push the products on the side.

    • Natural or editorial backlinks take forever to get and there's little chance someone would give a backlink to an affiliate site, no matter how good the reviews are, just for the reason they are helping someone else make money off those products when the blogger giving the link could just as easily put up their own reviews to the same products and earn money for themselves.
  • Have you built any links to your pages? It might be harder to rank these days after all google updates, but if you dont target the most popular products you should be okey, just give it some time.

      Yes its a fairly new site, about a month old. I read on here that I can target low competition products and get on the first page, and I would much rather do that than heavy SEO work.       However, I do not know how to find those low competition products, it seems like EVERY product is being fiercely marketed. So so far it seems like BS to me.

      Here is my SEO strategy, I'm a total noob at this stuff so it is pretty straight forward and simple. Let me know if there are any holes in my plan?

      1. Create the articles, starting with low competition products. I just want to see SOME kind of success here. Afterwards, submit them to article directories

      2. Create a power point video and record it. I have a base theme that looks really good and that I will use for each product, just include unique pictures, excerpts, and I'll have 20 seconds of commentary.

      3. Submit the video to youtube. Include affiliate link and link back to my main article. Become a youtube partner for adsense commission

      4. Submit video to many other high ranking video networks(vimeo, dailymotion, etc.), link back to the youtube video, my site, and amazon affiliate link.

      5. Submit powerpoint slides to slideshare and other document sharing sites with a link back to youtube video and/or my article

      6. Rip the audio and submit it to audio sharing sites with a link back to youtube video and/or article.

      7. Sprinkle in some social bookmarks. My girlfriend knows how to use pinterest, I'll see if she can help me market with that too.


      That is my seo strategy. I don't want to build some crazy five tier pyramid or create feeder web 2.0 blogs. With the exception of sharebar on my site, I'm not really pushing social media here since for the most part it is a simple review site. Is that enough link juice to push my website up?

  • I know of one person who touts the write content, never build a backlink and rank on the first page of Google method time and time again, and I just hope that you haven't taken this advice to heart. You need backlinks to rank, whether they are earned or built by you.

  • If its only 1 month old you need to give it a bit more time to see how it playes out.

    Keep build links to the site, and I dont think youtube will help you get better rank in google, but its good for traffic.

    Some amazon sites ive built in some niches, have been real crap in conserne of organic traffic, so my advice is to build another site in a diffrent niche and see how it goes.

    Its harder to rank a new amazon review site today then it was a year ago(for me anyway) because there are tons of those crappy sites that dont give any value what so ever(not saying your site is one of them).

  • I believe that your niche is highly competitive. And yes, creating high quality content is one of the keys to getting into page ranks. However, considering the small amount of time that you have spent in the business, it would really help if you become patient in what you are doing. It even takes years for others to get the money that they are expecting from what they are doing.

    • Yeah I found the thread that you created about a year ago, and learned a lot from it. It really inspired me to go with an Amazon based website instead of adsense! Read the entire thing, but you never got into detail about how you did research for the amazon products, I think that might be where I am fumbling.

    you have to build backlinks, spin those articles and submit them to article sites and be sure you are putting a link in the article that goes back to the specific page that you want to rank for.

    • Do people still spin articles? I thought that was a myth, as long as you indexed the information on your site first spinning is unnecessary. Am I wrong here?

      BTW, I'm using InReview theme by elegant themes, how do you all feel about it? I'd love to eventually purchase Amazillionaire but I'd use that for a second site once I know I can make money from Amazon.

  • Simple tip based on years of experience with building Amazon sites.

    Don't even try to rank for keywords that have Page 1 filled with ecommerce sites. You can do it but it will take a lot of effort.

    OP here's a tip for targeting popular products that sometimes have less SERP competition.

    Instead of having one page about one product, build at least 3 pages about 2 products.

    Here's what I'm talking about (example)...

    We have 2 saws for sale on Amazon (Skil 5480-01 & DEWALT DWE575S).
    • The first page on your site is focused on the first product (Skil 5480-01).
    • The second page is focused on the second product (DEWALT DWE575SB).
    • The third page is focused on a comparison (pros/cons) of both products(Skil 5480-01 vs DEWALT DWE575SB).

    The page titles would be something like:
    1. Skil 5480-01
    2. DEWALT DWE575SB
    3. Skil 5480-01 vs DEWALT DWE575SB

    Link all 3 internal pages to each other with the appropriate anchor-text.

    You can scale that up to even more relevant pages by simply adding a 3rd product.

    Example page titles:
    1. Skil 5480-01
    2. DEWALT DWE575SB
    3. Skil 5480-01 vs DEWALT DWE575SB
    4. PORTER-CABLE PC13CSL
    5. PORTER-CABLE PC13CSL vs Skil 5480-01
    6. PORTER-CABLE PC13CSL vs DEWALT DWE575SB

    The key here is that the search is being done for two specific brands & model numbers as a product comparison (buyer is on the fence (comparison shopping)) which your competition won't usually be focused on even though they might target both individual products.

    Don't forget the relevant internal links that connect the keywords/pages.

    • I disagree. You're probably trying to persuade him to use your service. Err you're not trying you're desperate for him to use your service.

      Don't hire a professional SEO expert. You can learn everything here and ask questions to all sorts of online marketers that will help you out for free.
  • I like Yukons method. Also, its critical to rewrite everything that is pulled from Amazon, as is possible.

    • That is what I do. All of my reviews I write myself, the sentence structure is
      1. Overview (hook)
      2. Features
      3. Pros and Cons
      4. Conclusion(restate points and close)

      Comes out between 400-1000 words when all is said and done.
  • To boost your link building efforts, build tier 2 links to your tier 1. One of the most effective methods for building tier 2 link imo is to submit them to networks like UAW or SYA or some other ones to get PR juice to your links.

    It's not going to hurt your site because you are not sending those network links directly to your site.

  • Great, I was also going to suggest you for adding quality backlinks to your site as it is important to beat the top ranking sites, and also you spend some of your time on press releases and submissions.
  • You have less possibility in ranking your site on #1 if you just write high quality content.To get high ranking ,you need to make some blacklinks strategies.For example,you can build the high quality tier 1with web2.0 and high pr article directories site for your money site.Then you need to build the blacklinks for your tier 1.If possible,you can also build the tier3 under the help of some tools.I hope that my suggstion can help you in some degrees.

    • Surprised my thread hasn't been buried yet, I guess this would be a good time to give an update as to what I am doing with the site.

      Basically, I've done thorough research now and am doing straight blackhat, after having used up a great deal of time building links to my site manually and becoming a zombie.
