How to get links for your blog/site?

I just seem unable to get any links for my blog. It is new, low pagerank and low Alexa make it unattractive to other webmasters, and only a few of them responded positively when I asked for link or post exchange. If you want to take a look it's here hxxp://grudgematchmovie.blogspot.com
How can I make it better? I don't want to buy links, but I offered a lot of other options, banners, facebook likes anything really.

      BTW @Alexa, I just wanted to know, will it have any extra advantage for SEO and traffic if somebody have their own hosting and domain rather than these free blog services?

        Free blogs can barely be monetized for long without the administrator raising an eye brow because they aren't made for business but rather pure information.

        Aside, that you don't have control over free blogs which is like building your business on a rented space when you can actually buy the space for peanuts.

        In terms of SEO and traffic it all boil down to your expertise.

          Actually blogspot has Adsense & Amazon built into the blogspot Admin pages (last time I checked). That tells me they want the free pages monetized.

          I've been monetizing blogspot for years. IMO, the secret is, don't drop links on other peoples blogspot blogs. It's not difficult to keep an account.

          BTW, I also have paid host.

        As far as I know, (apart from the relevance of geotargeted domain-names and local hosting, for other countries, of course) where a site's hosted has virtually nothing to do with SEO considerations at all. I don't see any reason why your own hosting should rank better than blogger/wordpress.com/anywhere else at all (but the people who imagine that blogger "ranks well because Google owns it" and/or that "Google loves Wordpress" are totally barking up the wrong tree).

          Not true, actually. If you are on free shared hosting or something like that, where a lot of spammy blogs/sites are hosted, you could get in trouble.

          In 2010, Matt Cutts made a video which validates that shared hosting is still fine. But now there are situations where you could be at risk. In the event your site is hosted on a server with many sites that are considered "spammy," then yes, your site could be negatively impacted.
          Do you really need a dedicated ip address for SEO benefits?

          If you link to a website that is in a 'bad neighborhood' you could incur a penalty. Even sharing an IP address (as with shared hosting) can seriously damage your site if you have some notoriously bad sites on there. This is just one reason why it's worth paying a bit extra to get the best shared web hosting: avoiding being associated with the spam and porn sites.

          But that doesn't mean that most shared hosting wouldn't work perfectly fine. Just be aware of where you're hosting your content.

    You can build links to your blog simply through blog commenting. Since you write about your passion, it would be easier for you to find bloggers in the same niche/topic/passion/expertise and have a conversation with them and link to your posts as reference.

    To fine bloggers you can use this query: inurl:blog "keyword" inurl:comment
    You can also use Followerwonk, Google Plus or even Facebook to search these bloggers.

    Ok so I better get rid of blogger. What then, is there any way to get backlinks apart from asking webmasters individually?
    I googled a lot but didn't find too many interesting stuff.

    Hey here is a list of backlinks you can get for free:
    -web 2.0 sites
    -articles sites
    -social bookmarks
    -forum profiles
    -wiki sites
    -PDF sites
    -comments
    -rss submissions
    -slideshow sites
    -picture sites
    -video sites
    -software sites
    -press releases
    -audio submissions
    -question sites

    For web 2.0 and articles for example, you just write an article with a link inside and submit it to different websites. Registration on most websites are free so the only thing you are using is your time.

    Don't underestimate comments for building backlinks. Many people say it's bad but in reality it's not if you don't over do it. The good thing is that you can get backlinks from high PR pages like that. Few things to point out though is that you need to create quality comments so you don't get marked as spam and use normal names for your "name" field, not your KW.
