Hello Warriors.

I started my dating website 3 weeks ago, and i'm stuck on how to get members to sign up on my website.

We have a facebook page & twitter.

I'm using Google Webmaster Tools.

The website is a Wordpress site.

My budget is small, so i was wondering what i could do to generate more traffic to my site, and let people sign up.

The website is: [REMOVED DUE TO COMPLAINTS ABOUT ME TRYING TO PROMOTE MY SITE LIKE THIS.]

Any help is much appreciated!

Well, I will be the first out of probably many replies to suggest SEO to you. Dating is a highly competitive niche. Ranking for keywords on Google like "online dating" "free online dating" etc. is out of the question, especially with a small budget. You need to do keyword research and dig into long-tail phrases like "free online dating for local singles" and similar keywords. These are ones you may actually have a shot for, even with a small budget. Once you know your keywords, you can then pay for an SEO service. Make sure you do your homework before selecting an SEO provider though. If you don't know how to do keyword research, most search engine optimization providers can do this for you as well. Then the entire process can be outsourced for you.

You're already on the right track with Facebook and Twitter. Social media marketing is a big one for dating websites.

Pay per click advertising is another option, but I would personally spend my money on SEO before I gave PPC a shot.

Even though I'm an SEO, I would actually give the opposite advice. I would not even bother with SEO. There are a ton of dating websites out there that have been doing it a lot longer than you. You are not going to outrank them anytime in the next 3 years unless you have a ridiculous amount of money to spend.

You need to focus on branding.

You should be spending money on PPC ads. I would do some CPA marketing. You should be buying ad space on websites that are catered to your target market. You need TV and radio spots. Social media is a good idea, but again it is going to be tough to stick out from your competitors.

In short, you should be buying traffic.

Forget about SEO. You will just be flushing money down the drain unless your site caters to a really specific niche like "Christian singles who used to be Jewish but now are not with brown hair looking for single Chinese computer programmers who are missing a limb".

Your post is very suspicious, since it is your first one and you are just promoting your site, that issue aside, you need to create content that attracts people, something that gives you interesting information, see the cosmopolitan titles and articles and follow the lead

I'm not really working in that space, so I haven't researched it much. If by reasonable you mean cheap, then forget it.

If you are not going to spend the money to get traffic, then you better have something unique about your dating site.

For example, the one I keep seeing advertised on TV lately is Christian Singles. They are tapping into a unique niche in the market.

If you can find something unique like that, you have a chance of getting noticed and spread around through social media, maybe some press releases, etc.

If you are just another average dating site, I would either plan on a $10,000/month advertising budget for awhile or bag the whole thing.

If I were you, I would concentrate on making high quality content for my website. Also, I would utilize the social networking sites that I have. I would use them to promote my services. And I am not that fond of buying traffic. Don't get me wrong. I just think that doing so will not give me the guarantee that I will get the target traffic that I need.

If you have no budget, then you have no dating site.

Come up with with quite a large sum of money, then try again.

eharmony, match, zoosk, etc. have spectacular advertising budgets.
Even the ubiquitous farmersonly.com and christianmingle.

Nobody but nobodies are going to sign up for joeshmo dating. That is,
if you actually get nobodies even to it. Aint gonna happen with SEO.

Well, i don’t agree with you for this. I think its better to go through PPC before considering SEO, at least to test the profitability of keywords so that you don’t end up wasting your efforts in SEO for keywords that do NOT convert!

Concentrate mainly on Twitter and Facebook. Build a good community for a hashtag and promote it daily. For such a niche, Social Media sites can help you a lot!

Make a viral campaign. Find a friend with a camera and get them to record you asking women on dates or something. Even if you get rejected every time. Put it on Youtube, plug your site and share it wherever you can. If you fail miserably enough people will find it funny and tada, you're viral.

Failing that you're going to need one hell of a budget to attract any traffic at all.
