Wordpress SEO; Tags & Categories; SEO Images?

I've got several Wordpress blogs. I have not been thrilled with my ability to move up in rankings. Or said differently "I suck at traffic" LOL!

I realize that I have been lax at going all the way with SEO ing my sites. I had never done anything with tweaking categories or tags, where the is the option to add key words, images, etc.

Of course, it also comes down to how much time one can give it.

I was considering uploading an image file in the mane of my key word and load that into each cat or tag and then perhaps use alt text to match the name of the cat or tag. So the file name would have my primary key word or site title and the alt text would be matching each cat, tag.

Maybe in addition could drop in a key word in place provided, when you go into the cat or tag area.

I'm thinking of how to streamline the process of adding some key words and seo value i.e. with images, etc. I wonder if this strategy would be beneficial, such as loading an image file into each cat and tag with the primary key word. But not to go overboard and so use alt text to match the cat or tag and not the primary key word. Does this make sense? I wonder if google would love me more for doing this?

Any suggestions?

For starters, you need to focus on building links because it'll give more benefits in terms of SEO than virtually anything you can improve on your site for SEO. So, better write and publish guest posts and get links that way. Plus create YouTube videos and set links back to your site from them.

When it comes to on-page SEO, you need to make sure that your keyword in:

    1. your url
    2. your title
    3. h1 tag
    4. actual page copy
    5. image alt attribute
    6. image file name

Also, be sure to use your keyword and it's synonyms before and after your image.

Do not overdo your target keywords. Yes, it's a good idea to optimize you web pages but make sure that you do not 'over' optimize since these days it is really risky to stuff your webpages with your target keywords.

Instead, for your images, I would suggest that you just describe what the image is then make sure that you have the target keyword/s in your content, link, and H1 tag. And like Kenneth suggested, make sure that you use keyword variations (this is one way to avoid keyword stuffing).

It is quite easy to streamline your on-page efforts. Make a checklist of what you should do in every page so you can follow a certain process. Prioritize optimizing your content but make sure that you also post/update good content for your readers.
