Long Tails Question

Hello,
I have a question for long tails researchers. I get them via google,bing suggestions.

Here is the question:
It is necessary at all worrying about a volume of monthly searches for keyword or you get decent traffic via other relevant keywords and LSI based keywords you are using in the text?

  • Of course. No point spending time ranking for Long tailed keywords if they arent going to bring enough traffic. I go for LTK that have over 500 monthly searches, and the plus side is you will still get traffic from LTK you weren't even trying to rank for.

    For instance, a long tail keyword i was trying to rank for was "Make money with Fiverr" and GWT started showing traffic for searches like



    Which is why you should write articles that help the user, rather than just cramming your keyword into it and surrounding it by crap.

    • That's the worst advice I've heard in a long time.

      The search volume of a long tail keyword is not overly important and I am generally happy to target them even if they have searches as low as 80 a month. Main reasons why:
      - Ranking for 1 long tail keyword will inadvertently rank you for multiple variations of it, which makes up for the smaller search numbers.
      - Long tail keywords are generally very specific which means that even with such a small number of searches the traffic is almost always going to be very targeted and relevant to your niche.

      Also, if you find a long tail keyword that has say 100 searches a month but it is a buying keyword, or one very direct to your product, then it is normally worth targeting. In particular, if the keyword is a buying keyword for a product worth more than a few dollars, maybe $20-50+ than it's definitely worth spending the time to write content and rank for it regardless of whether the search amounts are 100 or 10,00 a month.

    In fact, the conversions for long tail keywords give much better conversion compared to the regular keywords. It is better to work with more keyword variations which are easier to rank along with the original keyword.

    Adding more LSI keywords in your article would boost your ranking to large extent and would have long lasting ranking
