Buying the right domain

So I am using jaaxy as my keyword tool, I'm going to offer a free report on staying virus free. So am I going to want to get a domain thats along the lines of "howtostayvirusfree.com/org/net" or what?

  • Not really. Keyword-rich domains don't have much value these days, since the latest Google updates.

    The value would be in explaining to the visitor what the site is about, just by the domain. Is it worth having such a long url? Probably not for most people. Maybe in your case it doesn't matter, since it sounds like its more about the report and less about the website content and authority. What are you longterm plans with it?

    Now it's more about brand. Normally you would go with a memorable name. You could use something like; "pitbullantivirus" or just "pbantivirus".

    • Get an EMD , they still get Google traffic/benefit, and don't forget about the type in traffic you'll get. If you don't care about that, then grab a brandable, short domain name.

    .com is the standard and is the "more professional" top level domain. anything other than a .com is inferior, and besides most people assume .com. The .com domain extension will probably increase the site's sell value, if you ever decide to do that. It will have no importance in the search engines. That being said, if people routinely search for domainname.com instead of domainname.net in the search engines, having the .com becomes an inherent SEO advantage.
    So .com is better choice.
    develop both websites.
