SEO for Product Listings site

Hey guys,

What are the best practises when doing SEO with product listings site? It's an official company page, with around 6 categories and tons of product listings.

Difficult part is that there's no articles, and all products listed are images.

From what I've read, it's best to link to category page instead of product level pages. That makes sense.

But then I simply have no idea what kind of backlinks should I get for such a page. Should I just proceed and check on my competitor's backlinks, and try to built backlinks by following their links?

All advise appreciated, thanks!

Place the keyword in strong positions.
    • Page Title
    • Top of page
    • <h> tags
    • Image alt-text
    • Plain text surrounding anchor-text & images
    • Multiple internal pages focused on the same subject (incoming/outgoing internal links).
    • LSI keywords

The list above doesn't mean you need to use all those things, my point is those things can be used to keep the page from looking spammy/stuffed.

Here's an example, lets say your keyword is auto insurance, instead of constantly repeating the word auto use LSI keywords on the same page & the incoming internal links that include the same types of things in my list above.

Google knows these keywords basically have the same meanings:
    • auto
    • automobile
    • vehicle
    • car

You could also use additional relevant keywords like:
    • truck
    • motorcycle

Google knows that cars, trucks, & motorcycles are all in the same category (passenger vehicles).
