This is actually a great question.

Cheap link building old style still works on Bing and Yahoo. It no longer works and can hurt you on Google.

On Google, the new SEO is Content Marketing.

Link-building is still alive on Google, but it's more difficult.

    1. Strive to get natural links. Asking people, your friends to link to you is legit. (Don't exchange links. Only link to others if you WANT your visitors to see their pages.) High-level, editorialy selective guest blogging can still be very valuable. Most especially, link-bailt and viral content are effective at drawing great links. Promote your content vigorously in social media and in some cases even through paid ads.
    2. Don't use keywords in anchor text. Just forget them. Use the brand name and the domain name.
    3. Don't link of your home page (some will say "don't link to it too much," I say don't link to it at all).
    4. Instead of commercial pages, mostly link to information pages. About Us, Management, Team, bios, blog, news.
    5. It doesn’t matter which of your pages are sucking in the link juice from the Web into your site. Onsite, let PR flow via direct links the noncommercial sections of your site into your most important sales pages (which have the right money keywords deployed in the title tags and elsewhere).

    I hope this helps.

    Dear Nimtrohit...

first understand, "Every criteria acts different for different Peoples", as per their effort, understanding, usability etc.

    "Is SEO Really Dead?"
I ll say a Big "NO", i dont know about any one else but it still works perfect for me.

Bottom Line is: "How Better you understand SEO"

SEO is not just to create Backlinks from blogs, forums or webs2.0 linkwheel etc.

Instead SEO is a Mechanism developed by Google to provide most relevant results to their users for what they're Googling.

Now things has been changed, Link spamming is not a way to get Top SERP in 2013.

Now what should you do to see your website in Google Top 10 results...Right ?

I'm here giving you few tips briefly....

    Create Content rich site:
First clear up one think in mind, you should create content not just for google indexing but to solve user problems.

Content should be enriched with effective images and if possible then Videos as well.

Content should contain Internal links for so user can easily visit your website.

Never try Keyword Stuffing in content etc.

Most Imp: Keep an interesting Title and Meta description. Although google doesn't crawl your meta keywords so not so important.

One more thing use Breadcrumb, Google Authorship & Rating snippets for better CTR in SERP.

    No come to Offpage SEO:

List up your Website in Directories like if you're selling a software then list up with Business Directories.

Share your content as a guest on Dofollow Blogs

Share about your website on High Quality Sites like crunchbase.com etc

Submit Press or Updates at News Media or Blogs

Contribute content or links to relevant Online Places

Share your News/Updates at FB, Twiiter, Linkedin etc.

Share Videos at Youtube and much more.

I hope all this help you to change your Point of view towards SEO
