Adsense notice question?

Hi

I've seen people placing a notice above their adsense ads on their blogs stating thngs like "ADVERTISING" right above the ad.

I was wondering if this is a legal requirement or other necessity of some sort or if they just do it because of online ethics?

The way I see it, Google already has the little ad choices wording and blue symbol if people want to know more.

You don't have to. It can be a good idea, though, if otherwise it wouldn't be obvious the ad is an ad - deceptive ad placement is a big no no.

Haha 'deceptive' that's funny because I have heard of Adsense reps actually consulting large sites on placement so that users dont know it's an ad, lol.

Maybe that has changed though because of complaints.

How will you know it is considered deceptive though?

My site for example is full of images/posts around the same size as the ad blocks. Would that be considered deceptive? The reason I have done it is pure;y because of site design and aesthetics.

Are the images placed in such a way as to mimic ad placement? Are the images
aligned beside or above the ads, same dimensions?

If so, then yes, it is against TOS.

No reason to place a notice of advertisements below. Maybe it makes people
feel "pure" or something. Large editorial sites may want a clear
distinction, but it's not because they have to. That's all google allows.
Just small text saying ads are below or something. They needed to state
that because people are stupid and want to put other text, like
"More resources below," which is clearly a violation.

I cant share my site just yet but the images are not the same size, I have adsense slightly smaller size then my posts and images.

If the tos say you cant have the ads same size and placement as posts then how come this guy has his adsense ad in this position and size and his site is massive: ThisIsWhyImBroke.com :: The Internet's Mall

Adsense is on sixth product line down.
