Linkbuilding - right or wrong?

I have 7 websites, three on one server, and four on another server.

All theese sites link to each other - in the bottom of the websites, like this:

Partnersites | xxx.org, xxx.com, xxx.net, xxx.com and so on.

Five of the sites are Brazilian, two another Danish.

I know that Google does not give as much 'power' to sites linking from the same server, BUT, does Google penalise the sites for having links from one to another?

I'm concerned because the sites have nothing to do with each other in any way, and some of them are not even with the same language written.

    I'd remove them. Why? One, because they're probably not providing any ranking benefit anyway - they're reciprocal and Google doesn't like link exchanges, and also because they're unrelated (relevance as a ranking factor is becoming more important). Two, though I think it's unlikely, you could be penalized for having unnatural links.

    links to the sites on same server were never benefilical, it has no value for SEO or Ranking, but this is certainly not a reason for google to penalize the site. I never built sites on the same server.

      You are right. Backlinks from sites which belongs to same server, does not provide much SEO value. It may give you some referral traffic. That's it.

        Does not matter. There are plenty of big sites, like amazon, ebay,
        wikipedia, gasbuddy, etc. that have dozens (if not hundreds) of sites, some
        on the same server, and they link up. It's never a problem if your
        sites are on the up and up. If you are dong bad things, then it's
        the bad things that matter, not linking up. Why is linking up such
        a big secret? You don't think amazon created an online empire
        with every thing from movie sites to alexa, just for fun? No,
        they did it to create an online empire, linking between every site
        like a madman. Ditto zap2it, go, and many, many others.

        You too could create an online empire.

    I link my sites together but I also target one niche & I link out to a few sites I don't own because they're relevant sites that I personally like.

    I've been doing this for years with no problems ranking pages, matter of fact I usually rank a couple of my domains per main keywords. More traffic, same links...

      When you link them up do you use different IP's and all that bullcrap ? Or no?

        I don't worry about that stuff. My sites are all relevant & serve a purpose that's all I care about.

        I do have a few old blogspots in the mix but that's not because of some magic 2.0 nonsense, it's because that's what I started out with 6-7 years ago before I started out with paid hosting. Those sites deliver niche traffic every single day & have been since I first built the sites.

        An example of one of my smaller sites is a site I use for niche video tutorials, the site is 100% video content, relevant links point to my external money sites/pages. All sites target same/similar niche keywords & usually trail each other in the SERPs. Example, If I rank a page on my main site for one specific keyword, the video site would also have a similar page on the first page of the SERPs.

        My current project is an ecommerce site where I'll be selling my own product, this will be an ongoing site.

        I've even thought about bringing in my competition (not sure yet) & let them sell their own products (same niche content) in return for a percentage of each sale that is generated on my site. Ideally I would host everything they want to sell on my own site, sort of like envato on a much smaller scale. Competition on the same site kinda forces sellers to create better products (like envato) to compete for sales, which generates more money for everyone involved.

        All of my existing sites will promote my ecommerce site, all roads lead to the money pages... as far as links this isn't any different than what I've been doing for years, it's simply one more same niche site in the network.

        I'm setting my ecommerce traffic up a bit different than most people. Most of my traffic is people looking for free niche content, I did that back in my Adsense days, free content was my traffic lure (still is). One thing I've learned is my freebie seeking traffic will still buy, I proved this selling a competitions product & did very well ($$). So I know there's still money in my freebie seeking traffic, I just need to get another site setup with a shopping cart & a heck of a lot of premium content (downloads). I expect the ecommerce site to be my biggest project for 2014. The good news for such a long term project is my content is all evergreen content that will be useful for years.

          That's what I'm thinking - if you use web 2.0's properly and not just to link build, it'll take you a long way!

    i have recently build a link on same niche site that has PR2 and now i am getting more traffic from google. i think link building really works .

    I insist you to 1st remove the links coming from the same server. There are millions of website from which you can get backlinks from Y are U trying to link within your server.

    Yeah what's the point in linking them together. If there is one site that is getting links from all the others, that would make sense. But if they don't have major link juice, it's not going to help you either way. You're probably sending bad signals to Google with what you're doing, so I would remove it until you have a plan of attack.
