New domain for a targeted keyword VS. adding content to an existing domain

Hi Warriors,

Lets say I have just found an awesome new keyword to target with good local search numbers, CPC, weak competition, etc. Lets say this keyword is something like "bird feed reviews" and I plan on creating a lot of high quality reviews and monetize via Amazon products for bird feed. Trust me these aren't the real keywords.

Now throw into the mix that I have another established domain like "aboutparakeets.org" or whatever. It doesn't have enormously great traffic or stats ( the PA ~30). The main point is that it is more of a general site that is loosely related to birds (although for a specific type). I choose "parakeets" and "birds" to demonstrate that the new keyword is for a type of product related to all birds while my established site to some extent focuses on one particular type of bird although it covers general stuff as well.

I am debating between setting up a new domain that laser focuses on "bird feed reviews" or trying to leverage some of the existing "authority" of my other site. Specifically I want to know if I have a better chance of ranking for "bird feed reviews" if I create a brand new domain that has a laser focus on that subject OR if I roll out a new section on my existing good-but-not-great domain that is loosely related to the subject. There may not be a right or wrong answer but I would love to hear your thoughts.
