    Directories are not as solid as other link building methods as article marketing and blog commenting and posting in social bookmarking sites.

    most of the link directories are considered link farms and google doesn't like that because they know that being there is just for a sole purpose of having a back link not adding valuable content to google index.

    However, Having a back link from quality link directory like yahoo or dmoz will eventually boost your power in google's eyes since those directories will only approve sites of high quality and kick spammy sites.

      Curious as to why you sought out a Directory?

      If you are in need of backlinks - there are several WSO going that can assist you. There is one automated script that Fran Murray put out for iMacros firefox plug in that Im using extensively - I think it rocks out.

    Nearly any kind of "automated" link building is going to have it's pitfalls, and the quality of the sites that are allowing you to auto submit are going to be low in most cases. It is more time consuming, but growing your links over time through manual submission really does work. Here is one place you might consider starting:

    If you use link farms / directories, don't expect much Google love. I see too many people on here saying things like "it won't hurt you" but for the sake of your site read through the Google Webmaster Guidelines and research the issue for yourself.

    Anyone who tells you that it's ok to use link farms is not your friend.
