How Does Google Handle Case Changes in Folder Names

I'm wondering if making a change in case will have an effect on a page's Google ranking.

For example, what if I have a well ranking page at:

www.mysite.com/onlinetools

...and then I make this change to the folder:

www.mysite.com/OnlineTools

Will this matter to Google at all? What do you think? Different folks seem to have different opinions on this.

  • It may take an update or two for the pagerank to show again. You can also do a permanent redirect from the old to the new, and it should work well for you.
  • I think G is going to treat it as a whole new URL. You would have to do a 301 redirect to preserve the pageranks and links.
