Can I rank my salespage or should I create a blog?

Lets say I want to rank high in Google with 5-10 keywords. Can I rank my salesletter with those keywords (even though the keywords aren't in the salesletter) or should I create a blog and write articles for those specific keywords and then have an opt-in box at the side?

Also, if I chose to create a blog, am I allowed to have popups or exit popups sending the visitors to a squeeze page? Or will that hurt my rankings?

Cheers

My opinion ... You should create a site with purpose of collecting emails.

If you have a real product buy traffic and send it directly to sales page, with an optin on the page if they don't buy.

You need to optimize your funnel and there's no better or faster way than with paid traffic.

ranking a sales page is possible, but for branded keyword. Let's say your business is called "captain kids", you can rank high for that terms.... but once you want to rank high in a more general keywords, let's say for your business "toy online shop" you better write and rank blog posts

You can rank a salesletter if the content are unique, optimize the title, keyword tags, description and images, also you might want to tactically sprinkle your salesletter content with some keywords it doesn't have to be all in order not to make it look spammy or unreadable.

A web page is a web page and can rank... It all depends on your on and off site SEO.

I would start a blog and add new content all the time, more content the better and more chance of keeping your rank. Google likes to see new updated content all the time and I feel like updating more frequently helps me rank too.

The better strategy would be to go the blog route. Create good content and videos and get those ranking. Funnel the traffic to a list/offer.
