Does having a significant amount of pages on 1 site play a huge role in page rank?

For instance, which will have a higher page rank on average...

1. a site with 500 page links and 500 inlinks/ backlinks

or

2. a site with 100 page links and 900 inlinks/ backlinks
#backlinks #pages

When you say "page links" do you just mean pages of content?

If so, I'd say it would be hard to tell. The reason is because with a whole lot of content you are bound to get people linking to your site once it gets noticed. And with more content the greater the chances are of someone visiting your website.

On the other hand, I think it is very important to build links back to yourself manually. By getting backlinks on your own you will get faster results in terms of SEO.

So, in conclusion I'd say you should find a balance between content and backlinks. You want to always be promoting your quality content to interested users through SEO but at the same time you want to keep things fresh for when new visitors come to your site. If someone sees that you are serious about producing new content regularly then they are bound to come back or even better spread the word.

The mistake you are making is thinking that sites have pagerank. That's not the case. It's individual pages that have pagerank, hence the 'page' part of pagerank.

It's possible that having less pages on your site would mean that each page would rank better if you had the same number of incoming links since there would be more links per individual page.

Don't get hung up on this sort of thing. Just build as many pages as necessary and build your backlinks.

Exactly. Pagerank is something that is hardly worth being concerned about. The most important aspects of helping your online business grow are creating great content regularly and promoting that content regularly.

This is what it really comes down to no matter which market you happen to be in.
