Hello Warriors" I have one question about risk of buying expired PR domain and how much is chance of getting that site penalized on the next Google update ?

I already find one expired PR domain at Go Daddy auction so domain is 11 years old and has real PR 4. I also check very careful links profile of that domain using Ahrefs and site has Strong PR profile has External Backlinks over 25K and also I check for Google penalty site is Ok and it's never been penalized, so domain is good to use for SEO purpose but think that I am worry about if I buy this domain and build site to rank for some niche keywords is it possible that in the next Google update past link of that site can negatively effect site and possible penalty ?

So is it better idea to buy expired domain with PR 2-3 that has very weak link profile without much past-links builded to the site or domain that has strong links profile? what do you think

Recommendation would be appreciated..

    1) 25k "legit" backlinks is hard to believe. I suggest you to check referring domains instead of backlinks (on ahrefs). Make sure they are not somesort of blog comments, forum profiles, wiki's and other similar crap.

    2) There's no such thing as Google penalty site afaik..

    3) It's always risk involved when you decide to rank money sites using private network.

1305 referring domains is very good. I would suggest that you go on wayback time machine and rebuilt some of the old site and link back to another one of your sites for a SERP boost.

I don't think it should be that difficult to check whether it has a good or bad link profile.

I always check the backlinks and take a look to see whether they are still on the page or not. I also check the anchor text for the backlinks.

As thelawlessone says, use way back machine and see what the site used to look like and whether or not it has been repurposed in the past.

Take a look and see how many times the domain has dropped. If it hasn't dropped before and everything looks right then it was probably a legit site.

I've bought several high PR expired domains in the past and fortunately only once have I bought a dud and that's only because I never checked the backlinks and anchor text properly.

There's always a risk in the grayer areas we play in. But with a good, high PR site the reward outweighs the risk RIGHT NOW (meaning at some point I think this will change). Google has much bigger and easier areas to focus on then private blog networks. So I personally think the risk (again, right now) is minimal.

There's an art to creating and managing a private blog network which is a rather lengthy (and debated) subject. But one key is to simply be smart and diversify. If you have multiple high PR sites, don't make them all look the same, don't link them all to the same money sites, don't host them all in the same hosting account, etc.

Sounds like you are planning to use the actual domain as a money site rather than link out to other sites you own - in which case, of course a domain with a strong link profile is better than a weak one. Heck, the same would be true if you were using it to point links towards other sites - why would weaker be better assuming all other things are equal?

As for risk - if you think you can make more money from the domain than you paid for it then the investment is worthwhile. If you don't, or if cashflow is a problem, or if you think you could make MORE money back doing something else (opportunity cost) then don't buy it.

Remember that relevancy of the existing back links to the topic of your new site/pages is playing a more and more important part in ranking. That's why some are saying to look at the wayback machine to reconstruct some old pages. However, that won't necessarily do enough for you, as back link relevancy is as much on a page by page basis as it is on a site by site basis. That means you can have a high PR page that doesn't rank better than someone else's lower PR page if the anchor text and and surrounding context of the links pointing to that page are not relevant to the page their pointing to.

You are better off getting a lower PR site that is relevant to your topic than buying any ol' site with a higher PR.

I have found a bunch of expired domains, with PA around 40 and with a MOZ trust around 5.5, backlinks all legit.

What's the best options for monetizing these? if I want to sell them where's the best place (And should I build them up first?)
