Is adding a post to 2 different categorys on a website like: category 1 Strategy and category 2 Action, considered duplicate content?

This is for a arcade game website

Thanks

Duplicate internal web pages are considered duplicate content regardless what they're called (ex: category, tag, post, page, etc...).

If you don't tell Google which of the duplicate pages is important, they'll make the decision for you. One of the pages will get buried in the SERPs, so If your doing SEO for that Supplemental SERP page, you'll be wasting your time.

    • Thanks bud, I am working here with a friend on our website, and we have a arcade game that fits on the 2 categorys ( Puzzle and Strategy) if we add that same game to the category page will google burn one of the pages since we are adding a lot of posts (games) on 2 different categories?
    • Thanks yukon. Does this happen if you change the permalink in wordpress to /%postname%/ and no-index the categories? I thought that stopped the duplicate content problem?
  • then how to have games in 2 categories without being detected as duplicate content?

    Thanks
  • You should check the webmaster tool for your duplications. But i think the same post in two categories is not considered to be the duplication.
  • Apply noindex to Category, Tag, Author, Date and Search archives.

    That should do the trick.
  • As long as the full text isn't being shown on those categories you don't have to worry about it. Tag as many categories as you wish. The problem comes in when the full text is being displayed on those category pages as opposed to just a snippet or a read more link. I use small snippets and actually prefer using multiple categories. That way you get several strong internal links the second you publish it. For low comp keywords that's usually enough to rank as long as you've got some strong links pointed at the categories.
