Getting SEO Writing Clients

Can anyone list every way they go about getting clients for SEO writing.

I'm an SEO writer. Have a professional site, facebook page, twitter, etc.

I market myself by emailing businesses and SEO companies as suggested by the John Coutts WSO.

Can anyone suggest other ways I can get clients?

I'm on eLance, but not looking to go that route as I feel my skills deserve more than most clients can afford to offer.

  • Find them here on WF. Digital point. eLance is excellent, you just have to ignore the low paying jobs. i've found many clients that pay $.05-$.15 per word over there.

Also, watch Craigs list. LinkedIn is good. There are MANY ways. Try to figure out where the clients you want hang out, and go there.

    Good luck!

I'm always looking for writers. But as soon as they say "I'm an SEO writer", I just walk away.

I was tempted a few times today to ask her what a "SEO Writer" respective "SEO Content" actually is. Just by coincidence I wrote a blog piece today where I voiced my opinion in regards to "SEO Content".

Bottom line: If I hear "SEO Content" today I think of low quality content or some SEO/writer having missed the last two years, someone who still believes in keyword density or similar shenanigans. Maybe OP wants to re-think renaming her business/service...I just think SEO content is a rather unfortunate term if she's really a good writer.

      I've often wondered that.

Would you suggest that I stop marketing myself as an SEO writer?

        ABSOLUTELY.

Not only has this word a bad rep, it's also confusing.
Are you writing on/about SEO...or are you writing "low quality content" for SEOs "only for link building"?

        So or so..change this

Just mention to them that you provide high-quality articles on different topics. If they want you to repurpose those articles for Seo, you can do that as well.

Yes, generally speaking, when you say you are an Seo writer, there is a good chance the prospect will get turned off :-)

Sounds like you have existing clients - how often have you asked them if they know of other businesses they might refer your way? I'd be doing this every 3 months minimum as chances are they'll be doing business with new companies during this time but without a friendly nudge they may not even think to recommend your services.

It's coming up to Christmas - why not send them a box of chocolates or a bottle of something nice to remind them you're there?

I have to disagree quite a bit with the other comments - your clients are primarily small businesses I would assume and the people in these businesses are STILL looking for SEO optimized content regardless what many may think.

And I've read Georg's article and again I find myself disagreeing with some of what he said. Keyword research is still important, especially if you are writing on a subject that you are not 100% familiar with - it allows you to actually form a structure to your article before writing.

It's all well and good to say that you just write naturally without giving too much thought to optimization and this works if you know a topic inside out but a writer will undoubtedly find themselves writing about relatively obscure things at times and to insinuate that keyword research is not required at this point is misguided in my opinion.

I also still think that optimizing header tags and hitting enough related terms can make a difference to a page's ranking. Each to their own though.

    Hello NB,

I think it would be better if you separate the word SEO from Writer. Although writing plays an important role in SEO but, SEO Writing is no thing. You should market yourself as a freelance writer. Join freelance platforms and post your previous work to the clients. You can find a good number of clients on these websites looking for freelance writers. Between, what niche do you write about? Good Luck.

Most of the time when you hire someone from here and ask for an SEO optimized article you end up with an article where the same keyword gets repeated at least a dozen times no matter if it reads naturally or not in combination with bold/italic/underlined.

However a good SEO writer will understand what you mean and pump it full of LSI rich keywords and keeps it well readable at the same time and such article when used as website content can give you quite an edge over your competitors.
