Analyzing competitions backlinks - Can someone help me understand this?

Can someone help me understand this?

(Please keep in mind that Ive done extensive analysis of all on page and off page seo factors and these are just few of them)

Im analyzing my competitions backlinks profile and I found that they have follow links coming from 17 low-quality websites,all in similiar concept - funny messages and jokes (all copy/paste) + music (radio station) and banner linking to competitons website.
Their website is only 3 months old.
Total 1545 links coming from 17 unique domains.
DOMAIN AUTHORITY 23
PAGE AUTHORITY (home page) 35
Also competitions site have 636 shares and 340 facebook likes.

***If this is also important competition website is in german language and backlinks are coming from bulgarian and romanian websites***

Now on other hand I my website have follow backilnks coming from quality local directories (30-50 directories),also from few forums in my niche,from few blog posts,youtube,my bussines google+ page.
My website is 8 months old.
Total 583 links coming from 17 unique domains.
DOMAIN AUTHORITY 21
PAGE AUTHORITY (home page) 33
22 shares and 50 facebook likes.
Google+ 107 +1s

Our both websites are well optmised (Im talking about on-page seo) and have similiar load speed.

As You can see I have fewer links,lower page authority and less social shares but Im doing everything I read that will be good in the future.

Mybe Im wrong, but is it still possible to build low-quality websites just for pusrpose of links and that way boost Your website rankings?

    You're approach will likely produce better long-term results. It's still quite possible to put up a site and rank it high and quickly with spammy links. But those rankings will likely not last for long. My suggestion is to just keep doing what you're doing. Obviously you didn't mention other factors like on page, anchor text, etc. so I'm assuming sites are equal in that respect.

      I belive that both sites have equal on-page seo factors.

      I agree with You on long-term results but its hard to get quality links for small business nowadays.
      Im sick of Matt Cutts advice - write quality and usefull content - How can I manage my business,learn all the time about changes in seo world and make up something interesting all by my self.
      What was good linking tactic this year can harm You next,Google is changing everything like its forsing us to pay for adwords - even adwords partner program exams are free now.
      96 percent of Google's revenue is advertising.

      Do You have any idea for making good backilnks?

      ps.Please do not say write quality and usefull content
