PBN's. How does Google really know?

So, let's say for arguements sake I have a PBN of say 20 sites.

Each site has the same nameserver, private who.is, are all wordpress. All different C-class IP's (maybe same host yada yada BUT not SEO hosting.) So sure there is a "footprint" here and there.

What are the odds google has an algo that sniffs this stuff out? If I have 3 money sites that this PBN links too, even all 3 on all 20 sites.... really will google find it?

I'm just trying to draw a line between being paranoid and ranking a few sites. If I want to rank for a few obscure keywords to make an extra 500 or 600 a month.... how would google know? Manual review on a site that gets 3-4 thousand hits a month from people looking for a blender? I don't get it.

I ask because I do have a PBN but I just can't bring myself to pay money to make them look 'unique' or like a real site when I just don't think google has the time to find such a small timer.

So, can't I toss 3 or 4 articles of 300 word crap on a site with a few links to a few money sites and not be worried?

      Ya that's more what I was getting at. Small fry. Not EVERY one on the WF is looking to quit their day job. If a hobby can generate some income that is great and that is exactly the point (for me for example).

      If someone wants to report me for ranking for "3 tier plant stand" using a PBN.... they should be more worried than me.

  • If you can guarantee that no one going after anything in your niche is making any real money and doesn't care about not ranking then sure. If you have even one person in the world that wants your spot then of course not.

    So heres the rule of thumb - want to rank for some crappy terms no one else cares about - you can do anything you want and not be worried

    Number one problem with your thought process is that its not Google you have to be worried about. To them you ARE a small fry but are you small to your competitors if you take their spot? Ton loads of PBNs are taken down by link spam reports made by competitors just like a whole lot of other link spam.

    Build out the sites & you won't be worrying about this type of stuff.

    There's nothing wrong with one person owning a network of same/similar niche sites, it makes passing traffic back & forth a whole lot easier. Example, If I owned a site about woodworking, I would have similar sites like:
    • woodworking plans
    • woodworking tools
    • woodworking show directory
    • woodworking videos
    • etc...

    Each site would be focused on a single sub-niche (ex: plans, tools, directory, videos, etc...). Make one of the sub-niches the main site then use all the other domains for links. You don't need thousands of pages on the smaller domains to have legit sites. The woodworking directory alone could be broken up into 50 individual domains (ex: 50 states in the US).

    If you think it takes too much time to build out the sites your not serious about doing anything long term. I've got evergreen sites that I started 7 years ago, the'll never be finished but they run on autopilot whenever I want to take time off & the traffic never stops.

    There's absolutely no reason to not monetize a network site. There's also no reason to not rank a few pages on the smaller sites for similar keywords as the main site. Use the network sites to help feed traffic into the main site.

      I know someone with a private network of 5000+ sites, he hosts auto generated content on them, has them on a dedicated server with 500+ IP's, kind of useless as it's the very same server and he realizes that now as well.

      Still he is banking BIG TIME, making $50.000+/month from his lead gen activities.

      No one cares about "electrician + small ass city somewhere in the US" so he isn't scared of losing domains.

      Sometimes his sites tank, then he just launches a new one and has everything automated so that the links and content on all those domains changes with it.

      Kind of proofs that Google has no automated way to detect private blog networks, even when you do it in the worse way possible and when working with such volume's you kind of have to do it like that.

      Lately I had some sites deindex, not cause Google detected my network or cause someone reported it, nope they just took the whole SEO hosting thing down with 10k+ sites at it from many.

      Now I'm slowly adding more shared hostings so that I can move my other sites from a few other SEO hosts as well, I use about 6 different SEO hosts and dozens of shared hosting plans so luckily it's well spread but it's probably just a matter of waiting before they move on to the next SEO hosts to take them down.

      It's a hassle getting truly unique IP's from normal / shared hosts though so what I do these days (or what I actually did yesterday) is sign up for:

      - 1 more shared host at Bluehosts
      - 1 more shared host at Justhost
      - 1 more shared host at GoDaddy
      - 1 more shared host at Fatcow
      - 1 more shared host at Hostgator
      - 1 more shared host at Namecheap

      These are kind of the 6 biggest hosting companies I suppose.

      Now I am going to wait 2 weeks and then I sign up with those 6 large hosting companies again cause by then plenty of others have purchased and filled their servers so that I get a unique server and IP again.

      I am also adding some hosts from the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand till I have about 100 shared hostings and then I call it a day.

      Obvious this is going to cost about $10000/year but at least it's solid then.
