Hi,
Its been said that site wide links are not good after Penguin.
I have a question about t his.

I am trying to make a website or a set of websites with my keywords. They will be gateway sites to my product site. In other words, these sites will be information sites, linking to the sales site.

I am going to introduce my product from every page of my new site(s) and put links to my product/sales site. As much as I want to avoid site wide links, this is something necessary.

In this kind of cases, should I no-follow most links to my product site including site wide links and links from each article? (for the SEO of the product site)

Also, for the information sites, would existence of many links to my product site harm SEO? Does it matter if I nofollow them or not?

Thanks!

No reason to nofollow them. Completely meaningless in that context,
and a misunderstanding of what nofollow really is and was intended for.

In fact, having nofollow links on your site means that you have links that
are spam/untrusted. For the average joe, that's insane.

Site wide links to outbound pages has never been a good practice.

Internal linking is a different matter and should be used to the fullest.

      Hi Paul,
I understand what you say in theory, but in reality isn't it too idealistic?
Let's say you have a published book sold in Amazon, do you not want to link to your product page, say, from your side bar? In this example, Amazon is a trusted site so probably no follow or not site wide inbound links wouldn't be harmful, but I have a separate product sales website and it's not Amazon.
In my understanding no follow links do not mean that these links are untrusted, but just the way to tell Google to disregard the value of these links, is it not right?

I read several web articles whether or not site wide links are good or bad, and it seems the answer is "not sure but better not to." In SEO context however, at least in theory they can be considered spam if Google took it as the way to alter the rankings of the website. However in my case there is now way for Google to know if I put the links to alter the rankings or just to promote my product. So - I want to be on the safeside.
