Getting ranked in Google Question

Hey! What's up? :-)

OK, so I have a question! ;-)

...I was doing some keyword research, and I have been coming across some
keywords that I think I can get ranked for.

The example for this one is:

"how to start a successful blog"

So, when I type that into Google; it brings up the results, and I can see that only about 2 pages are actually optimized for that keyword...

...I can also see that there are some PR0's.

However, there are also some PR4's, and PR3's.

But, the thing is that the higher PR's are not optimized for "how to start a successful blog".

So, my question is would I be able to take over them on a newish blog; making sure that I optimizes for the keyword?

I literally have no idea about SEO, and would love some experienced thoughts

Thanks!
Tom

    Hello TomGlover,
Yes you can get rank on that keyword if you work over it and get natural and quality backlinks to your blog. Page Rank of a website doesn't make any difference these days in SERP results. It's all about how unique and informative your content is for the users. The more people find your blog interesting, more are the chances of getting ranked better.

Google uses over 200 ranking signals to rank pages.

PR and on-page relevancy are only 2 (although they're really important).

You also want to look at the domain authority of the site's you're going to compete against. If they're authority sites like Problogger and Copyblogger, it's going to take some serious link building to beat them.

SEO is the mystery. You can find few clues but can not find the killer.

If there are PR0s on first page you can definitely do it.

    You're wasting your time.

Look at the sites on the first page, dummies.com, about.com, lifehacker, socialmediaexaminer.com etc

Stop chasing keywords and do something useful.

You absolutely can get ranked for it... just get the best quality backlinks and post some great content on your site that grabs the search engine alarm. The greatest thing about seo is that if you do the way they wanted you to do it, with no short cuts or loopholes... then your all good. Do some research on seo and get to know what search engines want and what they dont...

    hope that helped
