Redirecting single URL's

I have just been offered a contract to build a new website for a local cricket club.

All of their pages are no less then a PR2 and have a good number of links.

Their site is very old and very poorly managed. Who ever set it up gave the url links like:

www.example.com/section_home.asp?SectionID=2
www.example.com/contact.asp?SectionID=10

Whats the best way to save PR and links?

For example I would like to re-direct - www.example.com/contact.asp?SectionID=10 to www.example.com/contact

Thanks in advance!

  • They didn't give them the urls. The CMS did.

The best way is to leave everything where it is, create new pages,
no redirects, especially if these are pages indexed already.

There's really nothing wrong with those urls anyway.

    In fact, just the opposite.

domain.com/contact.asp is much better than domain.com/contact

    • May I ask why .asp is better?

They want the old site taken down as its an eye-sore and the CMS is impossible for them to use.
