Why do all my backlink attempts end up as NoDoFollow?

I tried posting into article directory sites, and most of them don't have a resource box where you can post links.

I tried posting under my YouTube videos, I tried to do it with Yahoo Answers. Still, all my links end up as NoDoFollow.

So far with SEO tools, my site only has 1 backlink.

I tried submitting links in the articles, but the links end up as NoDoFollow instead of DoFollow.

How am I supposed to build backlinks if every link I provide is a NoDoFollow link?

Stop trying to build links on sites that give No-follow.

      This...

However, nofollow links still provide value in that they can provide traffic and help create a natural backlink profile, so don't be hating

Traffic sure, but for natural it would be what? 3% No-follow and I'm good, or 0% and I'm still within the natural looking range.

This is always something I've wondered about too, what exactly would be a good ratio of no-follow vs. do-follow. I know there's a video where Matt Cutt's said that no-follow links only make up a single digit percentage on the web (video is over 2yrs old though). So theoretically a backlink profile of 95% do-follow and 5% no-follow could exist naturally.

However, I can't shake off the feeling that a ratio that skewed would probably trigger a penalty.

I do feel like more and more sites are going no-follow just because they don't want to deal with all the spam that comes along with having a site that's do-follow, and I don't blame them. Honestly, I think that if you just back-linked naturally without even checking you'd probably have more no-follow than do-follow, especially if you rely more on social media (which is almost always no-follow.

            It's like The Matrix..

Where the SEO software devs play the part as the Architects. They have convinced the world that there is a much larger percentage of no-follow links then there is in reality. They did that because a larger proportion of links that only require you to fill in a form and complete a captcha to gain are no-follow. And the reason they are no-follow is because it only takes you to fill in a form and complete a captcha to get them.

It's a lot easier to try convince the world that this is the way things are. Then to try program a software that can build private blog networks, do concise link analysis, write emails, out reach network with other site owners, become active and contributing members of related communities, guest blog, speak to people on the phone, negotiate niche related link exchanges, automatically make payments and make a damn good cup of coffee all through the power of a VBNET script.

      Confusion to be sure.

Nodofollow. That's a good one. There aint no such thing as nodofollow,
and there aint no such thing as dofollow.

I don't know who you people are following.

There are sure a lot of ways to find good do follow links. The plausible and most easier ones to do are guest posting and content syndication. You can also post to private network blogs like kevin just said. I also use free SEO tools to find for good backlinks such as Traffic Travis. This makes it easier for me to build my links to related, high PR do-follow sites. Good luck!

The assumption by many is that nofollow links will not pass much, if any, link juice or anchor text value. But the nofollow link can still pass relevance... and slightly more in my opinion. Google may not "count" the link as a weighted backlink but this doesn’t mean they ignore the anchor text being used
