Really Struggling with Google Keyword Planner

Hey all,

I've taken a break from IM for about a year and just now getting back into it, and started the Google Sniper system. To my dismay I've only recently discovered that Google completely changed their keyword tool and I'm having SUCH a hard time getting the results like I used to.

I simply need long-tail keyword suggestions to capitalize on, but the keyword planner is spitting out the most bizarre, useless keyword suggestions, and only seem to product more than 18 at a time when I use one to two keywords as a search option. Even when I use different keywords, I'm getting the same suggestion results, too. Also I don't mind that it only shows exact matches, but I would like the Phrase feature back.

My question: Am I missing something here, or is the Keyword Planner completely useless now? What are some other alternatives out there?

Yes, the keyword planner is a little clumsy but once
you get used to it it does work and it does give good results.

There are some YouTube videos teaching how to use Google Keyword Planner for SEO (just search: "new Google keyword planner" in Youtube), but it takes some time to get use to it.
I personally using Long Tail Pro for finding keywords (and more).

    Here are the steps:
    1. Open Keyword planner under Tools and Analysis.

    2. Click on the 2nd option that says "Get search volume for a list of keyword".

    3. If you need Broad Match just type in your KWs in the box.
If you need a phrase match put your KW in quotes - "My Keyword"
If you need Exact match use square brackets - [My Keyword]

    4. Change location and language to your preference and hit enter.

    Hope that helps.

Ignore this. It's wrong. The Keyword Planner does not provide phrase or broad match search volumes.

For longtail keywords Google keyword planner is not actually that good - and long tail keywords are going to have increasing use as Google now takes hold.

I tend to use it to get suggestions for 3 word keywords and then from these I just come up with similar long tail keywords myself. I then check these by manually putting them in to the keyword planner.

      Maybe this will help you,

      Go to

      Keyword Research Tools from Wordtracker

      (it's not an affiliate link)

If you type in single keywords or phrases it will give you a list of results and volume..

It's not the greatest but it's Free

They have paid services to, but kind of expensive,
      Good luck,
