This site was ranked #1 for a long time, I never had to do any offsite SEO because it is a small market and it ranked on its own, Well now this site is gone and no where to be found. A quick look at google webmasters tells a tale.

#search engine optimization #negative #seo #site #victim
  • What tale?
It doesn't say anything that can shade any light on SEO.

    What is your keywords base?
What ranks you in SERP and how you get to #1 place?

    • What are you talking about, there are almost 70k backlinks I had nothing to do with and now my site is gone from the rankings.

  • Looks like a real easy cleanup if it was. But that chart could indicate anything, like maybe a few sites just gave you site-wide links from a site with lots of low quality pages, or a low quality site in general.

    • Ya it just seems odd that these sites linking to mine are porn hosting sites.

  • You need to go by # of linking domains not links. This is a basic SEO misconception. 500 single links from 500 domains > then 3.2 million for 30 domains all else equal.
  • Fastreplies,

Google has stated that backlinks are one of over 200 signals they use in determining rankings. However, all signals are not equal, so backlinks are not 1/200th of the ranking.

Now please tone down your comments and keep from attacking other members.

    • Then tell other member if they have different opinions to come up with evidence and not just
      blah blah blah song

So, you are saying that MC never said that backlinks just 1 of 200 ranking factors?
Or you're saying that backlinks are not at all part of the 200 items of ranking factor?

  • The good news is there aren't thousands of link sources to clean up.

With a bit of work, this can be rectified quite easily really.
  • URL pleasE? It seems like your site is down, nothing to do with Google.
  • I would venture to say that massive ranking drops are caused more often by issues with backlinks than from any other cause. I really cannot imagine anyone would argue with that.

    • I wish people were clear about what ranking they are talking about Ranking in SERP or in PR
that slimy green gif on GTB.

For argument sake, can you be clear which one is on your mind?

  • And good luck proving that backlinks make up less than 1% of a site's ranking. I would love to see some evidence proving that.
  • I'm not looking for sites ranking for junk with no backlinks. Show us a site in a highly competitive niche ranking with no backlinks.

    • Junk? Not according to SERP

      Well, lets define "no backlinks".
Can we claim that 0 to 5 backlinks site have "no backlinks"?
      or
Can site with PR 0 or 1 considered to be a site with "no backlinks"?

  • Nowhere in this conversation was anyone talking about PageRank, but you can't have PR without links.
    • [1] reply
    • Of course SERP.
OK, try Google for: strongest web directories
and look for bestdirectorieslist.com right next to our amray.com

  • Its quite simple, if you didn't build or pay for the links on the porn sites (or other sites) then your site was targeted.

Were you previously ranking well and that's why you have been targeted?
  • Banned
Build some decent links or scrap the domain & start over. It's only a 4 page EMD site & you said you haven't built links.

    Current SERP positions:
    • carpet cleaners riverview fl = 52
    • carpet cleaning = -0
    • carpet cleaning riverview = 55
    • carpet cleaning riverview fl = 89

BTW, the junk links wasn't something that just recently happened (ex: April 1, 2013).
