Traffic drops when no article is posted, also fresh articles only show up on top of 2nd search page?

I notice that if I don't post up a new article for a few days even though I have over 4 thousand articles dating back to 2008, my traffic drops.

I don't earn a penny on adsense either, and when I post a new original article I will get maybe 200 views and maybe earn 10 cents, my website is in google news too. also my new articles when I do an exact title search, always shows up on the second page of google search never on the first page:confused:

Is this normal? Other people I have spoken too who have google news sites said they get good traffic at least 3000-5000 visits a day and earn around $50 dollars to $100 dollars on average from adsense and they say most of their traffic comes from google news.

Was i penalized by google?

    You won't rank solely based on content.

    I would say think less in terms of quantity and more in terms of quality, in other words produce great content and aim to get it featured on other sites in your niche (preferably sites with some authority of course).

    For the rest link to the actual posts as post nr. 3000 is probably burried very deep into your site and does't receive any homepage juice to rank anymore.

    Many people vouch for authority sites these days but without a decent way to promote it / back link it, it will result in failure more often then not as you need to keep on attracting links.

    That's why I often focus on smaller sites with 20-30 pages that I rank with a fixed set of links and that I don't have to bother much about later while it will keep on ranking.

      Thanks for the reply, but I don't write spammy articles all are original content and submitted by writers, its why I only have a few up a week.I have to edit them and go through everything. The site is in Google news too.

      How does one get authority, I have noticed some spammy sites being ranked high for search terms.

      Does it have to do with the look of the website like the design?

      Backlinks are a slippery slope, you can get punished by google thinking you paid for links.

        Solid back links and rankings can turn a site into an authority one.

        Without them your site is nothing.

    Your website is in Google News. so the update is really important to your website. I hope you are having news related website. Update your post regularly or make your time frame that fit your needs.

    If you do this, you get good traffic and your site is not penalized.
