$150 Or A Backlink?

Hi all,

Second thread I'm posting today. I just seem to be chock-full of questions.

Ok, so here's the deal. I've written a truly awesome, long guest post that's incredible. No two ways about it.

I'm not gonna publish it on my own blog (since mine is still relatively unknown and it's a good idea to publish your better posts on better blogs until yours catches up).

I have two choices: I can guest post it at a 6K Alexa rank blog (that's SUPER targeted to my niche, and I get a high-quality, contextual backlink). It's a very reputed and widely known blog in its niche.

Or, I can guest post it at a different, relevant site (9K in Alexa) for a cool $150 (or possibly even $200) WITHOUT a backlink.

I'm a writer by trade, so I love it when I get paid for my writing (and yes, I do get attribution & credit for the post).

Which would you do?

Thanks for the replies!

  • If you're a talented writer, then don't hesitate to charge $$$ for the article. Write another article and get backlink from it. $200 is a decent amount for a single article.

    • How would you distinguish your article with writers who charge $30 - $40 for a 1000 word article.
  • Why cant you rewrite or write another one and post to both?

    • Yep, I've decided to get the article posted on the paid blog.

I'm not distinguishing my article, but rather the article buyer. He has money for it, he knows that premium content costs a premium, and he's willing to pay it.

I've decided to write a second post for the 6K blog.

Rewriting isn't a route that I'm gonna take, especially when I'm guest posting. It doesn't put value on the Internet.
  • Get $200 bucks for the post and publish another post to the relevant site. Btw can you reveal the site that pays this much? I would like to include it in my list of sites that pay for guest posts.

    • Simply choose both options
  • Take the money, write a rebuttal or summary, and find a place with decent PR and traffic to post it for $50. Maybe Payperpost.com?
  • Personally I will go with the 2nd option. If your a good writer and money is the motive than you are on the right path.

    That's just me tho.

    All the best!
  • Oops, misunderstood
  • whats your goal? whats your blog about? can/will you eventually monetize it?

if your answer is yes to the final question then go for the backlink and traffic, if the article is really that great you will benefit tremendously from the link and traffic. be sure that your website has good content for those that will visit it from this article. otherwise you'll be losing out on that valuable traffic and readership.
  • I see you took the money. That's what I would've done, too. In my opinion $150 in the pocket is much better than one backlink, even though I've done much worse deals than that.

It's not necessarily a trade between the two. You're a writer, so you can write a new article and possibly still get the backlink.
  • For SEO purposes I would take the backlink but for exposure in your niche, it could be different depending on how popular the blog is. Money is just a seperate factor in this case.
