I have read the recommended threads section, and one of the sections on keyword research says to find out the PR of the top ten listings for your chosen keyword. How can this be done? Im new to SEO, but eager to learn.

Get SEOquake (free) & keep your browser history cleared with something like CCleaner (free) so your not looking at personalized search results.

wow thats cool! Thanks! As far as the attributes which are listed, what would you consider too strong a competitor (number wise) before trying to rank high for those keywords? (PR wise and anything else that would set off alarm bells)

Please do not use affiliate links in signatures

There's more to researching comp. than PR. The #1 ranked page could be a PRn/a from Amazon (example) & still be a very strong page considering PR doesn't update very often, yet Amazon usually has a bunch of same/similar internal pages targeting the same keyword/niche.

Here's a few things to consider:
      • Internal/external links
      • Site structure of ranked page
      • Exact keyword in ranked page title

One thing I usually look at is the Google cache (text version) of the ranked page/s, that will let you see only the things that matter as far as on-page SEO (removes all the clutter).

If you are using FireFox, the SEOBook toolbar has worked well for me. You can see all links pointing to site and what TLDs are pointing to it .edu .govt etc.

You can check the PR, how many hits on Digg, Delicious, Stumble etc

Free toolbar but sadly it is only available for FireFox. SEO for Firefox is another tool from the same dude which operates on Google when you do a search - it lists the Page Rank and a whole lot of other variables underneath the link to the site

According to me, Search Status Add-on much better than SEOQuake.
