Google breaks it's own rules about making ads look like content

Google has become very tricky by placing their paid ads very close to the top organic ad. So the top organic ad is actually third in line under paid ads. So the paid ads are more likely to get clicked before organic. Funny how Google breaks their own rules about ad placement by making the ads look like real content.

Have you noticed this?

I'm not sure, they look just the same as they have for a while to me, different colour etc, unless I just never took enough notice before to notice now.

Hey - they can do what they want. They make $700 per second, and they don't give a crap about whether you get a click or not.

Google writes the rules and technically plays by them. If you'll notice there is a lightly shaded box behind the ads, and tiny print which indicates the top results are advertising. But really who pays attention to that? My advice would be not to emulate Google as they might get away with rule breaking, but you won't when it comes to ad placement.

They are clearly labeled as ads. The ads have a different background color. They are obviously different from the organic listings.

Google has been doing this for like 3-4 years. If you have been working in IM for any length of time, you would know that Ads placements do not impact your traffic for an organic listing.

Oh you mean the ones with the big word 'Ad' in them with an orange background? Oh yeah. My bad. They look exactly like the organic results and are impossible to distinguish from them.
