backlinking question.

hey I was backlinking today with angelas, pauls and steves backlink packages and got curious about one aspect of backlinks.

I was told not to backlink to one specific domain a whole bunch at one time, this seems okay as you do not want to attract bad attention from google.

BUT, what if i am linking to a youtube video or an article on another site, a site with so many users and so many links to and from, do the same rules apply?

I want to rank my youtube video high, and there are 29,000,000 search results for the key phrase, so I need a lot to get it up there.

So will google penalize that specific url? Can i link to that site more than if i was linking to my money site?

Thanks

Whoever told you that was just repeating speculation. It's not true in my experience.

Whenever I release new software I do press releases - these end up (very quickly) on a LOT of sites all linking to mine - In 10 years I've NEVER had any problems from getting links quickly.

Of course, if they're all from your own sites all on the same IP/host then you'll probably set off alarms - but just getting lots of links quickly is a normal result of good marketing - not a problem.

Dude linking in enormous amounts raises absolutely no suspicion from Google, try to put this in to perspective when certain news pieces come to light and certain exclusive website get the news first. Within a few hours there will be thousands of website linking back to the website. Google know this so i suspect this is not a issue at all.

okay yh i heard this too. Its just i tend to err on the side of caution, sometimes preventing me from doing anything

I will backlink my site then, it was only like 30 backlinks any ways lol

Does your opinion change if it my site is new, like only 4 months old?

yh angela edwards says this too but its hard to know what to do when you are new! you hear so many contradictory things. Do this...nope dont do it!

But I think what you, angela and andy are saying has sunk in. If google penalized sites that got a lot of links at once, well then all the good stuff would be banned and you would be left with the crap no one wants to link too!

      I get it!

      alright im off to backlink
