Social linking

I want to get your opinion on what type of social linking. I've got a plug-in on my website that gives me various social linking including Facebook and Tweet, I'm sure you've seen one talking about. Now that Facebook is one of those "like" buttons. However, when you click like, a box opens up and you have to write a comment before you come face to your Facebook page. I'm not sure I like this, I'm wondering if it's better to have just a like button. My way of thinking is a lot of people will just not be bothered to write something so will probably just switch it off, whereas if it's just like button, at least you get that like.

I might just add that for some reason, the box that opens up on the homepage when you click, like button doesn't show properly, I've noticed this happens on other websites as well, I must look into why this happens.

    A link button is a good way to make your website popular, but be sure NOT to ask them to share or even comment... They will do this if ONLY they want... If you try making them do something like this, they are probably ready to click the "X" button!

      Oh sure. That'll work...do you even read what you post? Cuz half the time
      it's half nonsense...

      FB likes, shares, etc. does NOT make your site more popular. Those are not
      even links....and why NOT ask them to LIKE YOU???? That's the friggin' point!

      You want to be shared...popularity is another thing entirely.

    Actually I didn't realise that you don't have to write something in the comments box, it will register your"like" whether you write something or not. Thanks to your comments, much appreciated
