Follow Up on Expert Roundup Strategy from Brian Dean

Brian Dean came up with this expert round up strategy which works cause it's a great ego boost for the ones featured in the lists of experts.

An expert round up is like asking 25 or 50 or whatever amount of experts to answer a question and host that on your site.

I thought about similar ego boost strategies a couple of minutes ago and came up with:

Exclusive interview from an expert in the niche

Not only does that provide great/useful content for the website in question it's also something that makes the expert feel proud and a good chance he rewards that with a back link.

Any other great ways to achieve natural links? Share them here!

ps: I did a small test with the expert round up. We contacted 30 authorities in my niche and got a 20% response rate based on emailing from a new registered gmail address with on reference to the site that would feature the round up.

I suppose that number can easily be increased to 50% when we use Buzzstream in combination with an email address connected to the site that will feature it and by making use of social media like Twitter/Facebook/Google+ to get in touch with them.

I see someone else appreciated the golden idea.

I think they key to true success with this one, is to start small but think big.

Those experts in the 20% can be built upon, and asked again for their input on future posts. Give it time and a few successful publications, and that small list of experts can be expanded into a contact list of hundred/thousands of willing contributors.

Before you know it, you have yourself a "REAL" authority site and maybe even get lucky with a few frequently posting publishers.

My point being, it can be easily built upon for the long term.

lol..I actually emailed 5 "experts" in my niche yesterday. I followed Brians email example to the spot, just changed the question. No replies so far, I give it 1 or 2 more days before I publish my article without the expert roundup.

You are probably going to need to email more than 5 people. In some niches, your response rate is going to be less than 10%.

Also, do not expect immediate responses.

Hell, I have sites ranking really well out there where I only check the email maybe once a month.

Yeah you are probably right, I was first afraid that if I emailed 20 sites and they all got back to me with a 200 word answer I wouldnt be able to include all in the article , but I see know thats not a problem.

You should give it more time yes, we got 5 responses on sunday/money but I expect more to roll in over the next days/weeks so don't freak out right away and contact more sites to get some fast responses.

My expert roundup responses will basically be the post in full with just an intro saying that we asked the top 50 influencers in our niche to give out a free tip, or something like that.

Another great method, also from Brian Dean that connects well to this thread is compiling a post of snippets from around the web with your own personal touch / items added and then linking out to those sites where you got the info / data from.

Once done contacting those site owners that you featured them, gets highly appreciated obvious, and again a high chance they link to you cause of their ego. He calls it the heads up technique.

When that's done you contact more sites in your niche to show your great post.

And there were some additional touches to it that I forgot as it was shown / told in a video over here: How to Rank For Any Keyword (This is The Exact 1-2 Punch I Used to Rank #5 for

For me it's more of a test to see if I can make it an integral part of my low budget monthly service. Won't be too easy though as it requires quite some manual interaction with the link prospects.

But if it works out well it's definitely something to keep in mind when aiming to build a true authority site instead of the next artificial review site. After all there's nothing hard about the concept as the great content gets written by the true experts instead of having to write it up myself or hire a writer that has no true knowledge of the subject.

What's your authority site, an Amazon affiliate blog?

Why would I respond to an email connected to you?

It's a legit question because most of the guys around here only talk about junk sites or sales pages, including OP.

Well, my SEO site could be an authority site. Lately I hired a native US writer with quite a bit of experience in the niche to be a paid "guest" poster.

As for Amazon review sites, the topic would have to be covered more broad then just reviews of the next hair dryer. I could contact 50 hair stylists and ask them for a great tip to style hair.

Or in case of weight loss products there are plenty of opportunities like asking personal coaches and diet clubs and such for their number one tip to lose weight, etc etc.

Cover some extra personal stories / interviews about people who lost a lot of weight and that preferably been in the news / somewhat famous.

It's not that hard, just type in "flat iron" for example and look what totalbeauty.com is doing.

        You can't be serious.

One legit page on the site doesn't make it link worthy.

The site I was doing this expert roundup is actually only a 3 months old site with almost no backlinks and just around 80 posts, mostly How To and stuff like that, but also reviews.

So I understand what you mean about why would anyone wanna assosiate with a site like that.

But to my defence its not a crappy site, Ive spent alot of money on content alone for that site with writers that know the niche.

We will see if anyone emails back. And some of the sites I emailed selling the same stuff I do so that could also be why they dont get back to me.

I don't know if your're being serious, or just want to piss on someones parade.

The idea itself can stretch in any direction you want.

I personally would have other same niche site owners at the end of my contact list. As they would be the first to notice your commercial intent behind the request.

      Example: Hairdryer

      Easy:

Take a walk around your local town/city with an audio/visual or better both device in your hand.

Visit a dozen or so hair styling salons.

      Ask the staff/stylists

What is your top 3 tips for dying your hair at home.

      Get their name,
      Occupation
      Company name
Profile picture if they don't mind
Their FB account if their willing to give it
The companies FB account/ website address etc...etc
Ask the owner if they currently have any promotions running that they would like you to add to the article, by way of thanks.

Go home, transcribe the content selecting the best of.

Publish the content with citation to their hair salon with promo. Use their logo image if allowed...etc.etc..

Contact them and let them know their published

Your telling me they won't link to that article, just because there's a sidebar widget selling Amazon Hairdryers?

      Gimme a break son...

You've willing gave 13010 pieces of quick free advice on this forum. And all people did was ask.

I think this is a solid concept, but in the one attempt I have made so far to apply it I didn't have much success. I will share what I think were my issues, which may help others, and if anyone sees any other issues I'd appreciate the feedback.

The idea: I have a nutrition blog I'm trying to build into an authority in the niche. I contacted the 30 top blogs in the niche using proven templates and added a personal touch to each of them. Out of the 30 I got back 1 positive response, a few 'no's, and mostly no replies (I tracked email opens and about 2/3rds were open).

At this point I gave up on that specific idea.

Some issues that I saw on reflection were:
-while I've had some interaction with them before (via twitter or commenting on sites), my site was still relatively unknown
-I aimed too high, in my next attempt somewhere in the future I'll aim to include lower tier bloggers. I think this will build my authority in the niche and increase the responses I get

My point exactly. Your competition is the least likely to respond.
      Try contacting 50 local/national nutritionists.
      50 local Dieticians
      50 local Personal trainers

      etc etc etc

      Search

      Linkedin
      FB
      Twitter
      Visit their business
      Send them an email

My first test round up is about SEO, if I would source blogs/authorities based on the word SEO services I wouldn't expect much results.

Instead my VA sourced contacts based on the word SEO and thus we end up with sites like backlinko, quicksprout, copyblogger, majestic, ahrefs, etc, now not sure about those last two though.

@Yukon: You only read the first sentence of that post and comment based on that and chose to ignore the rest. Up to you!

You guys are higher than a kite If you think anyone worthy cares about your Amazon hairdryer review site. You'll get other Amazon IMers If your lucky.

I'm not trying to piss on your parade I'm just trying to snap you back to reality.

If you want quality links from quality sites you need to start out with your own quality site. Or keep trying to take shortcuts.

Selective reading Yukon, didn't I mention totalbeauty.com as an example? Is that all about hair dryers or does it cover more?

There's a reason why I used that site as an example.

Or perhaps all that extra stuff isn't even needed. Look at what toptenreviews.com are doing, they have an awful lot of back links don't they?

The hair dryer section is just part of the site, same as flat irons, epilators, make up sets, beauty tips, hair styling advice etc etc.

That totalbeauty site doesn't even show up in Google SERPs for flat iron. It ranks #130 in yahoo, lol.

Ranks at #2 here for best flat iron, which has about 6-8k exact searches.

Anyway, appreciate your response on why toptenreviews.com has so many natural back links while it's just a review site, nothing more nothing less.

Decided to try this for another site of mine just a few hours ago, out of 10 emails sent I allready got 2 answers back.

Now I got 300words of free content, wich isnt bad. Hopefully more sites getting back with answers.

One of the site is a pr6 with huge facebook following, just hope they will share it when I email back and let them know its live.

Doesn't even show in Google SERPs US east coast. Nothing on Rank Checker, nothing on pages #1-2 incognito.

Why are you comparing your Amazon affiliate hairdryer site with a domain that's owned by the same business (TechMediaNetwork) that owns sites like space.com?

What your missing is, toptenreviews.com is spending thousands of dollars every single day on Adwords (estimated PPC). They have big financial backing, they run premium Adsense ads. Big boys play by different rules, money/traffic talk. It's basically another junk site like ehow, only instead of how-to it's reviews.

Lol I'm not comparing anything, just saying that I take that kind of approach for future affiliate sites that I build.

As about toptenreviews. You say no one in their right mind would link to a bunch of reviews while they have thousands of links.
