SEO is all about Google and Facebook now .Just promote your assets on these 2 sites you will get all traffic you need.

PPC is more costly and temporary work than SEO Services.

Well, as you said - there are plenty of social websites who can build your traffic. If you do your homework and create a perfect onpage optimization, you might not need any further offpage, and just let your site rank organically. This is a great option, but it's slow most of the time.

Also you can use PPC, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and many other websites to generate either free or paid traffic to your site. So, no SEO is not mandatory nowadays, but you must know how to do a proper onpage optimization for your projects, so you can at least get some additional traffic.

If you choose not to do SEO, then you should consider getting more skilled at driving traffic from social media and web 2.0 properties.

Heck no most so called seo experts are not any better than your normal marketer.

Google just wants your money they are vested in adwords and want you to buy there adwords ads.

Do you think they want to give us marketers free traffic? Heck no ...

Be smart save your money and drive traffic from all the other websites that get a ton of traffic out there.

Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Warriorforum, Googleplus, Youtube, the list goes on and on.

If you get free traffic from Google in the process just consider it a big bonus

My point: Never count on Google for anything you would be fighting a losing battle.

SEO is still a vital part of internet marketing.

But there's no reason to deny that the whole industry has changed. A lot. The SEO we all used to know doesn't exist any more.

Many tactics that have fallen under the SEO umbrella ceased into existence, either because they don't work anymore, never worked, or still work but are in violation of Google's TOS.

    So what is SEO now?

These days, SEO at its core is the art and science of making great content easier to find on search engines. The key point here is 'high-quality content' that helps customers answer questions that lead to purchase or some other business outcome.

So now search engine optimization is all about effective content management, high-quality natural links coming from the authoritative websites, perfect website structure and social signals.

SEO became more complicated, but if you do it the right way, you will get great results.

SEO - or any other specific discipline in IM is NOT essential.

There are so many business models you can create that there are always times when some things are irrelevant.

Sure - you could argue that many things are optional extras and could improve your results, but essential - nothing is essential and value is determined by context.

If you have a product or service and you get great results from paid advertising you can happily ignore SEO. No-one can tell you that you HAVE to use SEO to make money.

it's more like outbound links losing its value a lot more now than the previous update. On-page SEO is much important i believe.

There's no harm in owning top search results. Be careful though, there's a lot out there claiming they're experts and does more harm than good results.

It will be a good idea to include SEO in the marketing campaign but it is definitely not a good idea to base the whole business on SEO.

I personally will have multiple source of traffic coming to my website so that I will not be affected much when one of the source dies off.

  • Helpful? Yes. Can't live without it? No. After all, organic search is only one out of many decent to excellent traffic sources. Perhaps a business wouldn't be able to earn anything without organic search traffic if any one or more of these instances apply:

    • If your target audience NEVER goes to any other website without going through a search engine first; or

    • If your target audience NEVER spends any time in any site like Facebook or a Web forum or a blog network or a news portal or a Web community or an online shopping portal or so, EXCEPT in a search engine and in pages that the search engine provides in its search results; or

    • If your target audience NEVER directly goes back to those sites UNLESS they see it again in the search results of a search engine after another query; or

    • If your target audience is NEVER exposed to any online or offline mass media outlet, EXCEPT to a search engine and the pages that the search engine provides as results of their queries; or

    • If your target audience NEVER talks or spends time with any other person.

If you want to do IM seriously and create website around any niche you choose you need good SEO and Quality and Unique content around keywords you are trying to penetrate market with.Dont choose keywords that are competative. If you create just landing pages and try to do that in any niche at the end you loose money.SEO and unique quality content will eventually get your website spoted by Google,Yahoo,Bing and other search engines and you will start generating free and targeted traffic that will bring you money. It takes time and energy but business is like that and IM is no exception.Just have to cleare your mind and ask your self are u doing IM for fun on for Business.

    I hope this helps

SEO might have its place but I think it's insane the way some people go about it. For example, someone wants to start an online business and the first thing they do is keyword research. Ugh. Cart. Before. Horse. Why not pick something you'll enjoy spending your time on and then figure out how to market it?

Then many of them get sucked into the spun/spammed article, backlink vortex which is a total waste of time. Does it ever occur to them that even if they do end up on page one or two of the exalted G that people visiting their site will leave almost immediately because it's loaded with crappy content? Oh, wait, says the SEO devotee. I don't use crappy content on my money pages, just on my link bait pages.

    Yeah, right...

SEO has two huge benefits over the rest.

When you do it right it's a one time investment that requires little maintenance while with paid ads you keep on paying forever.

It doesn't take much time when done right, while with other traffic sources like social media or forum participation the traffic dries up quickly when you quit being active.

That's why SEO always wins over other methods.

Plus, even though it's cool to see your little Ad on the sidebar, that coolness starts wearing off once your ROI starts dipping into the negative.. but when you start seeing your site getting closer and closer to the first page, then closer to number 1, there's no feeling quite like it. Kind of feels like an olympic race, and little ol' you starts catching up to and overtaking these other athletes. Without having to pay! (well, not for Adwords at least)

I consider email marketing almost as important as SEO. I have 8,000 email subscribers currently, and every time I send out an email campaign, I get some good results in both traffic and income... and best of all, it's free.

No SEO is not essential to the life of a business, it is just one piece of the puzzle.

Other ways of driving traffic such as from social media, video marketing, ppc, media buys, email marketing, and branding are all viable traffic sources that one could look into if you didn't want to deal with SEO.

Really depends where you're at. If your site is well-known and linked enough, your CMS does decent job on the technical aspects of the on-page SEO, and you habitually write your content the right way - there's not that much need for a SEO expert. If you don't know what's the situation, get someone to evaluate your site.

I'd try to get the SEO to be a part of your publishing process if it's not there already. As others have said it can be kind of an investment.

Is SEO absolutely necessary? Well, no. If your site is doing fine and there's enough traffic, you're obviously doing something right.

SEO provides you with organic traffic without paying any marketing agent. Otherwise you have to pay. Whether to use only the agents or not would depend on whether you get the right returns on what you spend. Obviously, you should earn many times more than what you spend on marketing.

It's not necessary at all, but it can be very lucrative.

For anyone who is starting out in IM I always recommend they experiment with different traffic generation strategies and then concentrate on the ones they enjoy/have most success with.

There are plenty of people who make a lot of money in IM who don't know the first thing about SEO, just as there are plenty who make a lot without knowing anything about PPC etc.

If you're running a business and have to optimize something, it ain't free. Either you have to do it yourself, or pay someone. Doing it yourself might seem like free, but it isn't.

SEO is still relevant. Paid traffic may be the only option for some after the updates but still a lot of sites use SEO to achieve long term results and it still works. Please also take note that the new SEO techniques include social media marketing and good and relevant content marketing. And yes I agree that SEO is still useful but it is still best that you combine this with other marketing forms like building your own list pehaps (email marketing) or doing PPC.

The simple answer on your question is that SEO is not necessary for IM, but in terms of creating an longlasting online business you will need it sooner or later. Driving traffic from social sites and forums is good idea, since it is considered as SEO at the same time and will have impact on your SERP. However, if you are planning to invest some money in driving traffic through PPC campaigns, you might think about splitting funds and investing a part of it in SEO and slowly building natural link profile.
