Avoiding the Ban Hammer

I really want to avoid getting banned from adsense. I think I have done everything correct. Only 3 ads, site has real content, no dead pages, etc.

However my site is geared to helping people find certain products. I know adsense + amazon are fine. But i am using an eccomerce sites affiliate network.

Since the links were ugly I have used pretty link lite to alter the affiliate links (307 redirect no-follow) from there crappy look, to, mydomain.com/shop/productname

I am not sure if this is link cloaking/masking/whatever but I am wondering if google adsense would Ban you for this?

  • If your putting adsense on your website, you better play by the rules. Google will know all after you add that code.
  • I've never had any problems with Adsense while cloaking affiliate links that way. But as a heads up, if you're using this type of cloaking to avoid an algorithmic penalty, it doesn't work. Google still sees the affiliate links and too many will get you dropped off the map. I guess it's still useful if you want to make the links "pretty" or track through some other application.

    • No reason to do what you are doing. You can't really hide stuff that way
      anyway.

You must not be making any money with adsense, or else you would not
even think about mudding the pages up with affiliate links like that.

Either go adsense whole hog, or go affiliate. They both are probably
      hurting each other.

    • Yes sir, it is simply for being "pretty" for users that hover over the link. Apart from that it was also because google tends to not like affiliate links so the 307 redirect "potentially" hides them. Whether this is so or not, top authority sites I see using this.

As far as the multiple affiliate penalty, thats usually only in very high amounts like 30 per page. I have maybe 1 or 2 per page, on maybe 10 pages.

  • Banned
Why would you want Adsense on the page If you already have the product?
  • So long as you have rich content on your site, you shouldn't have a problem with using both Amazon and Adsense on the same pages. The only problem that Google seems to have are 'thin affiliate sites' which use copied reviews and content off of Amazon or a product manufacturer's site. Since you are publishing original content about the products you are linking to, then you are actually doing a good service for the site user and Google should have no complaints.
  • If you are selling something on your site, and you put adsense on your site, you run the risk of people clicking on your adsense ad and buying elsewhere. Yes you get money from that click, but you would have probably made more by getting a commission for whatever you where trying to sell.
