Hi all, I'm about to go more full time SEO writing and I was thinking about charging around 40USD per article.

what are your thoughts on this rate?

I've seen the stunningly low rates on places like fiver etc, but i can't even imagine what kind of garbage article costs 5 dollars. i mean seriously.

good work doesn't come cheap imho

I have years of journalism and editorial experience, have written top 3 google ranking posts for my blog and written (and am still writing) e-books. so writing is nothing new for me.

so yeah, what do you guys think?

If you can write professional articles then $40 okay for an article.

I hope the paid writing is better than the forum post.

      THIS.

For $40/article I would at least demand that the writer is from the US or raised there, from your writing it doesn't seem like that.

Thanks for the input guys, good to get some some feedback.

I am British English ( for those who have judged my post). A forum post is a forum post, and I'm writing from my tablet, its not a reflection of my article work

Also interesting to hear about the Finish rates. I had heard the rates were a lot higher there from a friend who is a freelance proofreader

There are plenty of writers that charge $150-$250 article in every country / niche. But you won't find any of them on internet marketing forums.

The absolute max I would ever pay is $20/1000 words article, unless it's a sales letter for a service, only then I'm prepared to pay more.

Well, they're higher. Much less competition, and high taxes. You can't really outsource it to anyone who speaks English and promises to do it cheap. Our language doesn't even have that many relatives except for our neighbours in Estonia. I'm not an expert on outsourcing, but if you find an entrepreneur who takes $40 per hour they're working for very cheap.

Translating a short article (fin -> en) can go for about $80, but for that you get a professional job at least.

$40 is very affordable (for a Finn). If you can prove that you'd write a good article about subject I'd want to cover, I'd be happy to pay that any day. But that's starting to be a price point where I'm expecting an error-free and ready-to-publish article with a reasonably good tone and flow.

In my humble opinion the Fiverr gigs are suitable for getting raw material for your own blog posts. You still need to write the final article.

You need to brand yourself a bit to stand out from the Fiverr crowd. There are good examples in WSO section.

90% of my income comes from writing. $40 a piece is not unreasonable for a 500-word article, provided it is a perfect article. That works out to $.08/word, which is in the middle of what magazines pay. (Magazines generally pay $.05-$.10/word, although there are a few that can afford much, much higher rates). For $40, though, you should be willing to put in the work required to create something worthy of publication in a magazine.

I have a few clients that pay that much, but I find it's beyond what most SEOs will pay for a piece. I pay the bills making much less per word, but writing pieces that require no research and are fast to write.

I would like to see what your calling an SEO article. How about someone (anyone) post a real example.

Still interested why your calling an article an SEO article. What qualifies the article to be pitched as SEO?

The price depends on keyword density. The higher the density, the higher the price. Throw a bunch of LSI in there and a smidgen of RLSI and you have yourself a $7 article right there.

Could then spin it, and sell it to 100 different clients. Or find one that's already been spun, use find and replace to force stuff it with keywords.

    That's monies BABY !!!

  • I've been freelancing for 3+ years and make quite a bit of money from it. $40 per 500 words is not too uncommon, especially if you specialize in specific topics.

Of course, the quality will need to be there too.
