The Demise of Personal Blog Networks?

Well tramatic, but in a way it seems to be going that way for many I can see.

A few months ago, you could get some very good PR3 and PR4's on Godaddy at a decent price. Now, the prices have gone through the roof as everyone is trying to build their own PBN.

Just like the housing market in the UK, many people have been priced out of the market.

Even using Snapnames and Namejet , the PR3s and 4's have either been spammed to death or Majestic says they have no links.

The expired domain situation seems to be drying up or some very very knowledgable people who may have their own domain tags are grabbing all the domains before everyone else gets to them

Not a rant , and not a question either .. a little bit of both as well as an observation after 4-5 hours of looking and scraping last night.. with no gold nuggets to be seen

I have a site I want to rank as a long term business.. looks like it will be 100% whitehat

The market is getting saturated yes and a once lucrative cheap solution becomes more and more expensive.

The more reason to restore the old site to how it looked before, or very similar to at least have the best chance of reserving the link juice.

I just checked expireddomains.net, the expiring domains in the auction.

    Found about 3100 PR3+ domains.

Applied a few wide filters like MozRank 2+ and DA20+ (kind of the very least you should expect from a PR3 domain), guess how many domains left? 414, it can't get worse then that.

Now apply a filter to only take English domains and you're left with 181 PR3+ domains.

And probably half of them are spammed to death yes, so that's less then a 100 domains that are really worth it, and half of the world is bidding on them.

That's just GoDaddy though, there are dozens of other registrars that hold auctions that many are not aware of, just search.

The market is stone dead stupid. Google does one update almost by mistake with old data and everyone says hey PR is still in. You are all wrong. the supply is KICKING. full of opportunities

And then you wonder why people complain when there "Excellent" blog network isn't working, when they base purchasing domains on PR.

Same delay as always, nothing changed.

It's not so common that a site receives solid PR4+ links and expires just 3-4 months later.

Unless you stare yourself blind at MozRank and Trustflow, which are way too often wrong.

lol...I wrote a whole paragraph answering that but then said "didn't you just tell Steve not to reveal anything?" So sure you believe that. I mean technically you are right but the underlying premise is waay off.

I don't. that has to be cross referenced with all the metrics on the links themselves. But hey. I aint complaining. Those who look for PR are making it great for those of us who wisely (and I would say obviously) realize Google will not be giving out updates very often. The whole market can run with PR and Pay $200+ for domains that were PR3s 5-12 months ago.

Thats the one good thing about Imers. They take years to catch up to changes as everyone on forums parrots everyone else. I would hate to be in your shoes. Renting out links pretty much forces you to buy and use PR because the poor souls know no better.

Use your noggin my man. Prices have gone up which means ALL expired domains with quality links have more value. You are crazy to EVER give anything away about where and how to get them. Get them and sell them if you wish but releasing another crappy WSO or posting it here is really the silliest route to go.

It's another in a long line of small-time tactics that has been buried due to overuse.

Luckily for you, your competitor is also probably reaching the same conclusions you are.

A new player in my local SEO SERPs (SEO + city) is ranking his SEO business with 4 articles all with the same content and one (ONE!) PR4 homepage article link, written in the usual outsourced barely coherent English.

I have no doubt that in a few months, some update or penalty will finally hit him and toss him off...but in the meantime, it's possible he's able to get a few hundred a month in clients just based on ranking well.

So long as decent PR links give you that kind of juice...it's worth it to get a decent domain that YOU control all the content and hosting for instead of renting it from someone else.

I'll take an article on a site I own to rank my own site long before I let my business link sit on a page of random barely written articles with links to who knows what else.

Private network building may be done for people ranking trying to sell WSOs and Clickbank junk, but for bigger businesses that can use a PR domain, write GOOD articles, and get some decent rankings - buying a domain for a few hundred for good link juice is still worth the money.

Wow....No way Hosea. Looks like I better raise my prices for building networks. Thing is though...What kind of backlinks do you call half decent?I know some people who think you need a ton load of links. Truth is one good low obl PR4 link can make a PR3 (with some other links and sometimes without). I really don't care if the link looks like it will hold.

Only a few links will do me, just as long as they are quality links and not some crap behind it. Then the domain is all good with me.

          Less is more...

Don't worry Mike - I've got a plan and no it doesn't involve a crappy WSO!

I agree - if a domain has 100 crappy links but has somehow managed to get a PR3 and another has just a few links with one from an internal page on a .gov or whatever then I know which I prefer....assuming, as you say, that the link looks like it will hold.

Market was saturated as private blog network boom recently. So it's demand/supply law in domain PR auction. I usually grab expired domain with good backlink and aged and build PR on my own with quality content and backlink.
