There is no best layout for adsense. You have to drive traffic and then tweak your ad positions to match where it would be best to position your adsense ads.

I don't think so Alex, it's proven that some layouts workout better than others with adsense...

      Thanks for your opinion though!

Just because one layout works for one person, doesn't mean it will work for the next.

Yeah. But what I said earlier I tested on about 1,500 sites.
          Stats don't lie.

But some of my sites brings much more with different ad placements.

I usually use my default scheme (under the header, in the middle of content) and only start to tweak if CTR is low.

Have about 2,200 sites now. In 4 years.

Have you considered how many people land on one of your pages and then instantly move on? That is why it's absolutely paramount to create content that people are looking for. If you can keep somebody interested on one of your webpages then there is a very good chance they will click on one of the ads after they have finished reading. If you are not doing very well with AdSense then you need to ask yourself if your content is good enough and interesting enough to keep people on your website long enough.

Well, I'm making about $80k-$110k a month from my sites network and it's ok for me.

Managing is the pain in the ass, but I have employees for that.

As for content, I always order content from US-based writers and content on my sites are pretty good and interesting to read.

My best sites (highest CTRs) all have a top large banner under the header and an one rectangle banner in the middle of article body.

what about for sidebar do skyscrapers out perform square blocks?

Link units vs rectangle under header?

I have done a lot of experimenting with AdSense and my two best performing units are 160 x 600 skyscraper in the left-hand column above the menu, and the 336 box at the very end of the content. Other units that do well are 336 rectangular units placed above the content and under the heading, and also 728 banners on my forum. The banners on content pages don't seem to do well at all.

This is an example of an article on my website. You can see the skyscraper in the top left-hand corner above the menu, and the rectangular units is right at the bottom. It's really surprising how well the bottom unit does.

I might also add that out of all the people who visit our website on Monday, only a tiny tiny percentage are going to bother clicking on your AdSense units. Anybody who is fairly confident using the Internet will probably never click on AdSense unit. I never click on AdSense units myself. I'm willing to bet you that the people who aren't that familiar with the websites are the ones who will click on AdSense units. I've watched my mother using the Internet, as soon as she lands on ducal, she will click the first link on the page, that's usually one of the paid advertisements.

$100,000 a month? Mind you, if you have over 2000 websites then that is a lot of maintenance. Not to mention the running costs each year. Mine is a pittance compared to yours, my last payment was £733 from one website.Do the calculations yourself?

I don't think Customs wanted to start a measuring contest. He was just trying to prove a point.

I think, the best thing to do is to experiment and see which one is really effective.

What do you mean by layout? Placement of ads? Then I have found three places the best for getting a good CTR.

    1. A banner below header or a rectangle within content near top - If your visitor doesn't find the content interesting or different than what he needs, then the ad may grab his attention. The visitor may escape your site by clicking the ad

    2. At the end of the content - After reading the content, most visitors leave the site and the ad may provide them a route

    3. Near footer - If you are running a blog, the visitors may scroll down to write a comment. After publishing the comment, they may be attracted by the footer ad

Regarding with sidebar ad placements, they give the worst CTR as far as I have experienced till now. I hope this helps a little, but the best advice, keep experimenting with your ad placements and build a layout which works the best for you

    1. Place Your Best-Performing Ad Units at the Top

You can see which ad units are making you the most money by going to Google AdSense, Performance Reports, Ad units.

If you choose here the ad unit that makes you the most money (it’s automatically listed at the top), it can be a good idea to place this type at the top of your pages, possibly above the fold.

If you haven’t made any money with AdSense yet, the Large Rectangle and Medium Rectangle ad formats are usually the best performing ones according to Google.

If you’re looking for a good start, put either of them somewhere below your first paragraph on your pages, either left-aligned or right-aligned, with or without text wrapping around them (testing can tell you which version makes you the most money).

Note: Placing too many ads and too little content on a page has always been a big no-no. However, especially after Google Panda and Penguin, it’s strictly forbidden!

You must keep an eye on your ad-content ratio, otherwise your site will get a ranking penalty and soon you won’t have any visitors to make money with AdSense.

Bottom line: don’t put so many AdSense ads above the fold that your visitors have to scroll down to start reading your content.

Well,so many suggestions about add placement.one thing and it is the truth""Try to Place your Google ad at different places and see which one gives you the best results"
You can search for Google adsense heat map and see the effectiveness of Google ads. Sometimes a very odd place gives you much better results other then a regular placement.

My recommendation is to STOP working with Adsense. They disable accounts for NO reason at all... Even if you do NOT click on your ads or you do NOT point to them, they could find another reason to block your account... Better go with Affiliate!
