Firstly, does too many internal links from the homepage affect the homepages's position in the SERPs?

And secondly, is this a stupid question?

I am sure you are kidding... The second question is like an answer to the 1st one...

Well... It's better to have a link from every inner page to the homepage (this could be easily done with a banner in the header or something like this...)... But it's also important that you could visit this inner page from your homepage too (it couldn't be possible to have ALL inner pages on the homepage, but be sure that they are accessible from other inner pages)... This is a good On SITE SEO strategy (of course there are so many other SEO factors that you should think about when talking about On-Page SEO!

You're thinking along the lines of losing link juice through internal links are you?

Not very likely at all, if the home page is the one you want to rank just keep 40-50% of incoming links pointing to it. Internal links to other pages won't be any problem.

And the only stupid question is the one you don't ask!
