Is Vocus worth it? Other Press Release instead?

Hey guys,

I'm currently an eCommerce website operator where we produce our own products and we are working on driving traffic to the site. I am trying to learn more and more from this site, reading around on SEO and other tactics to drive traffic.

We use Prestashop eCommerce solution. Current website PR Ranking of 2 however I have done quite a bit more optimization and I think we will be at least 3 on the next PR Update, however I cannot be sure obviously.

We are looking at Vocus.. $600/mo so $7200 a year.

I was reading it used to be 4k/year for the Press Releases access to PRWeb (Vocus owned), and that is the most important part.

Is Vocus still worth it? Is it common to ask them to lower the price? To ask for only the PRWeb access. They are hyping the Buying Signals and Landing Pages a lot to us.

If it's not worth it..and the Press Releases are the main benefit.. is something like PR Monkey or some other site better to use?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Carl

You might want to check out the new ranking mechanism for Google implemented recently. It seems that Vocus/PRWeb now hurts your website SEO. Be careful.

How recently was this found? I can't find anything. The only stuff I can find is on it being neutral. How would Google know if your article got picked up from a site/blogger/etc with a high PR that might result in good backlinks.

If you're trying to publish press releases for pagerank, it might not work that well. Your link may end up on a page with no PR at all. And of course it's something that Google doesn't particularly like.

You can probably buy a bunch of very high-PR links for that yearly price. Yeah, not exactly a "Google-approved" practice either, but just saying.

Vocus seems pricey, but if you need that social signal data, CRM and stuff like that, Vocus may be well worth the asking price. I'd not get it for link building, though.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

Before dropping the $7200 contact them through HARO (Help A Reporter Out) whereby you still get access to their software on more of a limited basis plus you get access to HARO and it only costs around $4200.

    Best of Luck,
