Yes it's useful and should be done. This is a part of SEO.
There are people that make searches for images and your image should have an alt tag and title related to your image and post you have written in order to appear in the image search results. You also get traffic to your page from images. It's another search optimization technique.

As you do insert keywords for your pages you should also insert keywords to your images to be found in search engines.

Google wants you to name images what they are, not keyword stuff.
That's what alt was invented for. It's very old fashioned, actually.

If you put keywords in an image that is a generic image showing a
menu bar or something, that's idiotic keyword stuffing. If you have
an image of a cat, it's a cat...not student loan consolidation.

So how do you get around it? By using strategically placed images.
Like a group of college students labeled as such on a student loan
page. And using those images sparingly...

If people only would learn code, they would know what the alt
was originally for....it aint keyword stuffing, and it boggles my mind
people still stuff 'em. In fact, many times you should use alt=""
but probably nobody much even knows that anymore...

Is the alt text helpful or keyword stuffing?

  • Every image should have alt text, but that text should definitely be relevant to the image itself. Whether it contains any keywords is a second priority. If none of your keywords applies to the image, don't put them in.

All you have to do is make the alt-text relevant to the rest of the text on the same page.

I wouldn't be surprised if Google some day decides to penalize sites for image-irrelevant alt tags.

Hasn't happened in the last 16 years.

If your image is relevant to the text on the page, relevant alt-text is all that's needed.

I'm not suggesting to stuff crap keywords like viagra in image alt-text of images showing a leprechaun (lol).
