Hi

Is there anyway of stopping competitors sniffing out your PBN and shopping you to google? Any plugins that let google spiders in but tell everyone else to f*ck off?

Cheers
Seamy

Maybe block backlink bots on the robots.txt or htaccess file.

You still might have other footprints where comp. could find your PBN.

What could a plugin do besides block a bot in the robots.txt or htaccess file? You can do that with any text editor via FTP or even directly inside of cPanel (copy/paste).

Yeah but he's looking for a plugin and it's too easy to just install and run it.

Same as above. You could, but it's just extra work. The plugin gets updated and you can just dump in anything else you want to add. Setup a default and just clone it.

Not affiliated with them btw. Just a suggestion. Take a look before you write it off.

The downside of blocking bots is you are creating a footprint.

I would mix it up. Block them in some, not in others. The ones that you do choose to block bots, I would not block the exact same bots either.

Keep it more random and throw a lot of bots not related to backlink checkers in there too.

What's there to update? How often are sites like ahrefs building new bots with different names?

Doesn't matter to me personally. It's still convenient. Don't like it, don't use it.

Sure I'll use a plugin in a wordpress site if it makes life easier but IMers are too freaking dependent on one CMS and it holds them back.

Just poll this forum and if something is not doable in Wordpress with a plugin they won't be doing it. So you build a PBN and link to your site from a wordpress blog
(with wordpress footprints in how they display html).

Now tell me what reputable company and site only gets links from standard wordpress and even standard theme wordpress sites?

He's saying that a PBN built solely on Wordpress is asking for trouble because only a reported 19% of the web is built on Wordpress.

Thus why would any genuine business site only get links from Wordpress sites?

I'm with Mike on this one and the others who said it's easier to use a robots.txt file.

I ain't saying that it's wise (asuming things might change in the future) but I rank my own affiliate sites solely with links from Wordpress domains and I never run into any issue's.

There are so many footprints that Google does nothing with.

Well duh. And I agree, but thats outside of the discussion. OP asked for a plugin. I suggested one. Folks spaz out over nothing. I seriously doubt many people here run genuine businesses. Whatever you want to define that as.

Mike's saying it's not a good idea to have all your crap on wordpress. Yukon says you can use robots OR htaccess. You're saying the robots.txt is the best solution when it's actually the worst. Some bots can, and do, ignore it.

See what I mean. It ain't rocket science but for some it's just easier to grab a plugin and run it. You don't have to worry about scouring the web and scanning through server logs looking up bot names. You also don't have to worry about screwing up something in the .htaccess. That would definitely ruin your day. Or a few if your tech support sucks.

Robots.txt file would be the perfect solution for this. Allow google bot to crawl your website but disallow rest bots.
