The first thing I would mention is your heading tag, you got far too many characters/words, you're basically stuffing as many keywords In as you can.

New York is a big place, people are more likely to search in their district for builders etc. If you include your county, or area and test the water for a while, you might get an idea of what people are looking for. Also, do some keyword research and try and find out what sort of words are being used for your type of business.

I very much doubt anyone would use "discount contractors" in any search term, so I would probably leave that out of your main heading title.

I would probably choose about five keywords to concentrate on first, then include your area just to give yourself a little bit more of a niche.

Anyway, I hope that helps in a small way

    Hey there Toyota Hilux Dealer,

I see a ton of opportunity for optimization, both on your Places page and website. For example, on your website, your embedded map doesn't show in English. Title tags could definitely be optimized. To be honest with you, a lot of work could be done on your website.

As for credible citations and links, here is a great list put together by GetListed sorted by industry - click here

If you'd like some more help, feel free to PM me

First of all, I would stop lying about the associations you belong to. I cannot find the business listed in the BBB, NRCA, or any of the other associations listed.

Second, this doesn't even look like a real business. The Twitter feed is nothing but hawking your Toyota import business.

      I'm not buying it.

If it is real, you need to do a better job of convincing visitors that it is.

If you want to rank and compete in the NYC market among contractors, you better have a very large budget for this. I would not expect to rank for any significant terms in NYC for at least 6 months. You need citations. Tons of reviews. A better website. Something that looks more real.

Also it looks like your Google+ page is a personal page, not a business page. You need to create a business one and verify the address by mail with Google.

Thanks for the tips. Also appreciate the Citations list. Is there a guide as to how I would go about getting a listing on these sites?

Since you are in NYC, you MUST have your DCA contractor's license # on the site.

Fake links, don't make them look as fake as the site though

  • Thanks for all the invaluable feedback. It is a genuine business and site was put together by a web developer customer who was delighted by the service he got from this particular contractor. Actually he just ported over the content from an existing site put together by Yellow Pages as a part of their packaged deal.

The company as I understand has been in business since 1981 and gets its new customers from paper and web Yellow pages but bulk of its business is repeat and referral business. The owner has asked my boss for some pointers on promoting the site and it fell in my lap. I unfortunately have no idea on how to promote a local business so haven't been able to make much headway hence this posting.

As indicated above, the content of the site has been copied over from the site that Yellow Pages folks had built a few years back so perhaps membership in some organizations has elapsed. Good point need to make sure that the information about membership is current.

Not sure about which links are fake, please point them out so I can fix them.

Will also get information on DCA contractor license. Thanks for the tip, didn't know about this.

Are there any sites where I need to promote this to get local business? What kind of back links will be optimal. The site does not have a big budget. Is anyone aware of a site in this category that is particularly well done.

With regards to Twitter and other accounts, that will be the fault of our previous developer who used it to promote some of our postings.

Thanks again everyone for very valuable insights.
