PPC TOP of google results (not side)

Im a complete newbie to this, but I have figured that maybe it would be better for me to just use PPC instead of trying to get ranked high for my keyword (italian restaurants in myloaction) as the CPC is around $0.30. My question is, how do you go about advertising at THE TOP of the search results and not the side?

    Bid like you've never bid before. There's a column that you should be able to add to your keyword report titled "Est. Top Page Bid". This will give you an estimate of how much you will need to bid to get a top position above the results. Make sure to monitor this as the estimates can become costly.
