I need help. I can't seem to get my website consistently ranking on the first page of the SERPs, especially Google.

Please tell me what I can do to improve my rankings.

My website is DUI Attorney | Find a DUI Lawyer in Your City. My primary keywords are "dui attorney," "dui attorneys" and "dui lawyer."

I have done some on-page SEO and have approximately 2,000 backlinks. The website consistently ranks on the third, fourth and fifth pages of Yahoo and Bing. It has infrequently bounced onto the first page of Yahoo and Bing but never consistently.

I admit I have been inconsistent backlinking and updating content.

Do you think if I provide consistent fresh content and work on the backlinks that this is all I need to do to improve my rankings?

Any suggestions? Thanks.

    • I was attempting to build an email list. I added that about two years ago. I haven't made any changes to the "layout" since then. I see now that that is not ideal.

  • How relevant are your backlinks? If they are not closely related to your niche, it might hurt your rankings.

    OP, here's what your facing as far as competition.

    The keywords your targeting are local keywords, but your trying to rank as If they're not local. Each individual city page needs to be ranked per local keyword, not just trying to rank a Home page that includes every state hyperlink on the one page.

    Go to an Incognito browser & search for the keyword DUI Attorney, you should be seeing mostly local search results. Now change your browser location on Google SERPs to an out of state city, you'll see local results for a different city for the same keyword (DUI Attorney).

    My point is since you have local keywords, you have mostly unique SERP competition for every city in the US.

  • you have gain large number of sidewide links(10,000). Check your complete back links and i am not sure in coming google update will hurt you more.

    • Hello dear, You are running after back links, It can be harm to you. Go easy and create a good content for your website, Do not focus on your keywords, First give the priority to the best content. Hate back links, I never go it comes naturally If I help the users. My users are my important for me. So think differently now in SEO industry.
