Seeing traffic from porn site without my backlink

Hello,

Google Analytics shows significant traffic from specific pages in a porn site to a client's site but when I check the code in these specific pages there are no backlinks to my client's site to be found!

Have you seen this? How can you explain it? Why would they even do it?

  • It could be referrer spam - they send a bot to your site with a fake referring URL.

    Originally it was done for backlinks, but I've seen it being done using a YouTube video URL to get people who check their logs to go and view the video out of curiosity - I'm guessing it works for porn too.

    I sometimes get that crap from dating offers on one of my sites. Like already said, it's most likely referrer spam. There doesn't have to be a link on the spam site to show fake traffic in your stats.

      Double check the Google Cache (text version) of the porn web page to make sure there's no link pointing at your client site. At least you'll know 100% that way. Even If there was a link, not really much you could do about it If a web master built the link on the porn page.
