I was about to use flowplayer rather than youtube to avoid traffic going to youtube. However I was wondering if youtube is better for SEO because:

A: youtube is owned by google and they favorite themselves
B: flowplayer is hosted on your server where youtube is hosted from googles end

    Doesn't matter. The video player doesn't even have to be hosted on your own domain.

    The video & SERP image need to be hosted on your own domain, the domain of the page you want to rank in Google SERPs.

    You don't rank the video in Google SERPs, you rank a web page that has a video attached to the same page. It's all basic SEO.
