Hello warriors, I decided to spend as much time as I can to start and learn SEO as I think it coud be very satisfying for me in terms of material and also spiritual . I like to read books and I think that in the books I could find the most help, but I am not sure from where to start. Do you think I should start from books?
I am asking here beccause I want to hear the opinion from experts. Any advice, not only in naming books, is much appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Start with reverse engineering. Pick sites you like and find out why and how you found them. Look at the on page and off page parameters and compare the same with popular sites in other niches. That should be a good start.

The above process itself will teach you the finer details. For example if you want to check backlinks, you need tools to do that. You'll learn about those tools only when you have a desire to check the link profile of a site!

It's difficult if not impossible to master SEO because it keeps changing all the time. But learning the basics is of course critical for every IMer.

I found that for my own purpose, SEO becomes easier if I'm not too extreme about reading the latest hacks and techniques, but just focus on proper in-page optimization and natural link building..

Thanks for the advice I am sure I had not think about this on my own. I checked on Ahrefs and you need a monthly subscription to have a complete profile of backlinks. I guess there is nothing of this sort of program without paying for it.

So... your advice would be to stay out of softwares for link building as GSA ? What natural means exactly, from your point of view when it comes to SEO ?

Look at a niche you're going after, see the top rankings. Observe the site internally externally. See what they're doing. Replicate but make it better.

If you want to master SEO then i think it wont be easy , Matt Cutts posting rapidly about all google updates and they are actually happening in 2 or 3 months, You need to be agile, you learn rapidly. This is the way you can know SEO well. There is no thing as Mastery, There is only learning with no limitations

Even if you try to use GSA to build links, you still are going to need a minimum of 6 months of learning fundamental SEO skills to be able to use it to even rank a site temporarily. GSA is the best backlink software but the links are so low quality and weak.
Also, GSA software requires rigorous tweaking and a ton of resources to build enough links per minute, it can run up to 600 links per minute, but out of the box you'll probably get less than 10 links per minute.
I would recommend learning whitehat manual linkbuilding, as you can rank a site much faster manually and with much better longevity.
Content may not be king, but nothing beats relevant pagerank links.

Though some of the techniques discussed in this book are relevant such as about writing quality content and internal linking, there are some parts you will want to avoid, such as backlinking with keyword rich anchor texts as Google is now penalizing webmasters who do that.

Actually, I've read that penalties are only happening for excessive backlinking using the same anchor text (such as when a blogger will use the exact anchor text for backlinking on every site they leave a link on). This could raise suspcions with Google as it's a clear sign the webmaster did his own backlinking and these backlinks are artificial, rather than editorial links. This is true, since most times a blogger who wants to recommend a site, will link to it using the article/page title of the page being linked to as his keywords or even the 'click here' link. In this way it varies per site as to how the site owner prefers to backlink.

Hi mihaiandrei, great SEO skills will make you a wanted go-to person. But it can cover such a diverse spectrum. I would suggest that you specialize your SEO talents.

For example, I can get practically any YouTube video - almost any niche - onto the first page of Google. I thought it impossible until I was shown the correct tips and training (and I can point you to the same training if you want. Unfortunately, it's not my training package, so it will cost. But it's paid off many times over).

Anyway, don't spread yourself too thin otherwise you'll risk getting frustrated. Perfect one aspect, then move onto another.

I think consulting the pdf book mentioned above in a post would be a good start......Time would let you to learn as much as you would..keep on watching what others are doing would let you to better understand the strategies and techniques what others are using......Moreover if you learn to include 2 links in a post then only keep yourself to 1 this would help you to take yourself away from any plenty that could cause harm for your site in initial stages. If you know someone expert then it would help you alot to get his years of experience in a short time spam.

I will first search and practice by myself what I am learning and after that maybe, I will go with the mentor option, as I think woud be great to show me the mistakes I have done on my own. Thank you!

I want to go mainly with websites, and maybe after that, if I feel the need of SEOing yt videos, I will do it. And yes, with small little steps, you can make a big one. Thank you for your advice!

First, I recommend you to start with some comprehensive SEO guide - there are many of them available online and most of them are totally free of charge. They will help you to get general understanding of what SEO and Internet marketing are.

Next proceed with read worthy industry blogs. Just Google for 'top 10,20... SEO blogs' and subscribe to the ones you find interesting and useful.

Follow reputable SEOs on Twitter, add them to your friends/favorites on Facebook and other social networks and read what they share.

Be in the know of everything that comes from the search engines - update announcements, interviews with engineers, help articles. But don't just take their word for it.

And finally SEO forums are a great source of SEO knowledge.

SEO: The Free Beginner’s Guide From Moz Is a GREAT place to start, as others have mentioned.

Google provides good resources and info too.

Search this forum, and search google, and you will find a lot of quality information.

Though it's important to stay focused, I'd recommend considering familiarizing yourself with some methods for driving traffic besides SEO. If one of Google's updates happens to slam your rankings, it can be very valuable to have other methods of driving traffic, so that you're not stranded while adjusting SEO strategies to climb back up the ranks. Just a thought.

in reality SEO is 99% about finding linking opportunities...that's it....and the answer to finding links is completely niche dependent... so you're probably not going to find specific answers here other than basic SEO knowledge. Figure out what works in your niche, there's no step-by-step instructions with SEO. It's hard work and the majority of it you're going to learn through trial and error... like anything worth learning.

Few things before you want to jump into this:
--DO you have enough time means about 1 -2 hours daily for 3 months to do seo yourself????
--If yes then i will say you should first go by some ebooks which can be quite boring but still few things for sure can be grabed from it which no one else will tell you ..
--2nd is go to youtube and search and learn basics of seo from there ..
--3rd go to fiverr.com or seoclerks.com to search some good Ebooks and to search for some SEO Experts who can rank you easily...
