Hi Warriors,

I had a website which was ranking #5 for a competitive term. I was getting over 1000 visits a day. Then after a period of 12 days it has slipped to #61

Nothing has changed, I continue to build backlinks and add content to the blog which is installed on the website.

I wonder what else am I required to do to bring it back to page 1.

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards
Ajeet

I've experienced the same thing recently. Is your site new? New sites experience a lot of erratic SERPs. They tend to go quickly to the first page but then drop back. If this is the case, don't worry too much because you'll come back up quickly.

It's also important to vary your promotion methods. If you're getting large number of links quickly from the same sources it could ring warning bells. Use a variety of sites and anchor text for backlinks and do other things like articles, blog posts and directories.

You need more backlinks, consistent building back links to keep the ranking. The reason your site is shown may due to QDF (Query Deserve Freshness), that is not your real position, it just Google think your site has News worthy content, so it shows temporarily...

Another reason, may be the links to your page has dropped, this is common when using bookmarking sites...

Also, I have found that google seems to test pages at certain levels. In other words, if you are building backlinks aggressively, google will pop your site up pretty high and leave it there for a while then bring it down some. I believe that google is tracking visitor behavior on your site to see how relevant it really is to the keyword. Bounce rate, depth of navigation, etc... are all things that google can watch. So if you have a really high bounce rate...

Sounds like the recent +50 penalty people have been talking about. If it exists or not is questionable, however previous poster are correct - just keep working on good content and backlinks from good sources, and you'll improve your chances of getting back into your #5 position.
