SEO on WP and HTML

Hi guys,

I have good skills on HTML, CSS and a little PHP knowledge.

I however would like to know seeing as I'm getting a professional company to design our website over in Wordpress.

Should I go with plain HTML or Wordpress. I know this gets asked over time and time again but as I have HTML knowledge and can change website content easily. Should I rather go with HTML over Wordpress for Google Rankings?

Or stick with Wordpress as it's easier to manage? Or does google just not care anymore

  • Wordpress sites are easy to manage and update. But if you are html expert so i suggest you make your website in Html.

  • Google's never cared what platform the site is built on.

    You can do SEO with an HTML site or a Wordpress site. They're still just code as far as the search engine robots are concerned.

    It depends what you want to do and how you want to do it.

    HTML can be "lighter" in code than Wordpress if it's done correctly.

    Wordpress can be easier to do things with - it's usually just a matter of finding a plugin that does what you want.

    Which is a long way of saying "Up to you!"

  • If you can always take the time to update the pages, or if they don't need to be updated, it really doesn't matter what you're using. If there's a change that someone else might need to update the pages you need a CMS.

    However, well-made CMS-based site pushes you and the site to the right direction. You shouldn't waste your time minding the nuances of HTML, but the planning and designing content, and taking care of the factors that really matter for SEO. Editing your own HTML has very few real benefits.
  • Wordpress is good option. You can use Yoast Plugin for SEO in wordpress. It's easy to manage and update.

  • CMS has numerous advantages that should not be left alone.Besides you have HTML knowledge which is an added plus point in the context of customizing wordpress.

    • WordPress comes ready for search engines and you can maximize it's feature using plugin like Yost...
  • If you know and have skills in HTML i would prefer you to develop manually on HTML. In my experience google prefers unique programing and scripts rather then copying the same template on wordpress again and again. This is my personal judgment not a rule.
  • If you know PHP just learn a framework like Laravel, Zend or Symfony.
    Its really easy to code stuff like wordpress and you have everything under your own control.

      That comment implies the assumption that Google's indexing is run by simpletons who don't know the most common CMS and the ecosystem around it. Which is very much centered around sharing, selling, copying, licensing, and ultimately using the same damn themes and plugins over and over again.

      No, it's not easy to code something like WordPress. Even if you happen to be seasoned veteran PHP developer it would some time to whip out even a rudimentary system without all the bells and whistles. And then there's the fact that your own system doesn't get any better unless you take the time to improve it.

      If you can take a hobby, or make a business around building a CMS, then go ahead. But very likely not a good fit for some random user asking help on a random internet forum.

      I find it hard to believe someone that claims they know HTML, CSS, PHP doesn't know a CMS is HTML in the end (what Google is looking at).
  • You would be better off if you focus you mastered HTML, WP is designed so easy in the case of a plugin, but it's not a problem with the HTML you can develop better. I do not mind whether it Wp or HTML, but certainly you must Seo Friendly HTML with search engines.

    • Wordpress is no different from HTML for SEO.

      They both use exactly the same on page syntax - headers, images, etc. - and they both rely on the content of the page plus the linking structure (internal and external) to tell Google about the page.

      There are SEO plugins for Wordpress but they only assist you to get things right, they don't (can't) get you a better Google ranking just by running a plugin.

    It is an amazing software, When you know what it can do for you. You have an added advantage of knowing php, CSS & HTML....This is what WordPress uses in an organised manner.

    I am sure after a while using this amazing CMS, you will never go anywhere else. Just learn every part of this CMS and I will recommend you to start of Security aspects of WordPress which i feel is only vulnerability people see when it comes to using this CMS. Here as well, I can tell you with my experience that you can do many things to secure your Site with WordPress in an effective manner very easily.
